Missing Hargreaves?

Can't help but think that with the patchy form of all our central midfielders (apart from Carrick, who was been pretty solid) that had we had Hargo in the mix, things would have been a lot more stable...

I know he has his critics, but his performances last year, IMO, were brilliant, save for his injury problems i honestly think he makes the rest of the centre mids look irrelevant...

His reading of the game is equal to Scholes and his ball winning ability makes him priceless, and very much underrated...

He need time to recover and if he's fit again this year.....he should declare that he is 100% fit.....Not like last season, he said he never fully fit last season and he have not reach his top form....If he declare this, I want to see his best form and I want to see him to be our dead ball specialist from close distance.....Come on Hargo !!! We have shown our faith on you !! When will you !!

maybe...cause when carrick or scholes ...fletcher and anderson..we have gibbo and possebon, youngsters with not enough experience overall. It would have been great to have hargo, but will have to do without him. Hope he returns to full fitness as soon as possible.

To be honest Im a bit hit and miss on Hargreaves Ive no doubt the lad is a good player but he always seems to need a extra touch before he delivers a pass.

I think there were games last season when he was without doubt a benifit but I dont think Ive even noticed he is missing as I think the problem we have is putting it in the net.

Look at the facts we havent had a problem defending we havent conceded many goals so how have we missed him. He was brought to United as a holding midfielder so if we were shipping goals then you could say we were missing him.

when hargreaves arrived i saw him being utds main player in the team and was looking forward to seeing his commanding displays but his knackered knees stopped that happening , i just hope that the surgery was a success and he finally gets a chance to show us how good a player he can be.

I've always thought that, tactically, Hargreaves is our most important player.

Ignoring last year, we saw how often we would play a 4-3-3/4-5-1 in Europe or in some other big game and play some shocking stuff e.g Lille away, Benfica away, Villereal away, Rome away, Milan away, Chelsea FA Cup final, 1-0 at Anfield ect.

Its obvious that Fergie wants/wanted us to play hat so we would get more of a grip on the game as possession is key in the CL and the big games.

The only problem with that is we are a club who thrives on playing 4-4-2 with 2 wide players and two strikers up top.

This is where Hargreaves is key IMO. We all know how good he is at CM when he's playing in the DM position (City away anyone?), so we can play him there, but he also gives us an exellent option on the wing.

With Hargreaves on the pitch we can change from a 4-4-2 to a 4-3-3 at any given time in the match, like we did in the CL final where he was our best player in the first half. It works both ways aswell as if a 4-3-3 isn't working we can just shif him out to the wing.

When Hargreaves isn't playing we, usually, would need to make a subsitution to make a positional change, as we don't have any CM's who are also brilliant on the wing. Its also rare that managers make subs in the first half, so if we are under the kosh then we'd havee to survive until half time, wheras if Hargreaves was there we could just move him to the right instantly.

IMO, our strongest team is the team that sarted the CL final, (with Berba replacing Tevez) and Hargreaves was the key player in the whol system as he allowed us to have more tactical options.

I agree with you, we would definitely have more steel and drive in midfield if Hargreves were fit.

I'm quite a big fan of his, but he didn't play well in all his games last season. In fact, he impressed me more when he played on the right to be honest. However, I did watch him at Bayern and I was delighted when he finally signed for us.

So my disappointment with some of his performances in the middle of the park was quite great. I'm looking forward to his return, not because of what he displayed, but because of what he has yet to display.

We haven't seen the best of him yet and I really hope he receovers well and plays the best football of his life when he comes back.

great post TM.
Although we didnt really miss hargo today :D he is still one of our most important players.
I would have him in my first 11 EVERY time, whether its in teh middle, right back or
on the wing. he has it all: ball retention, speed, power, aggression, great passing,
free kicks etc..... Its just a shame he is injured, but out of the 4 players we signed
that summer he is the most important. Cant wait till we get him back.
