Inter president Massimo Moratti has revealed that he came close to bringing Eric Cantona to the Giuseppe Meazza at the time that the enigmatic Frenchman was serving a nine-month ban for his infamous Kung Fu attack on a Crystal Palace fan.

Galvanized by his success in luring Paul Ince from Old Trafford, Moratti tried to pull off a much bigger coup by going after United's 'King', but Cantona ended up resisting his advances due to depth of his commitment to the historic English club.

"I was about to sign him. He was at Manchester United and he had just been banned for kicking a fan," claimed the Italian tycoon.

"He felt obliged to stay in England and serve out his suspension.

"He was an amazing player.

"With him and Ince we would straightaway have had a very competitive team. We would definitely have won things."

Cantona went on to cement himself as a true United icon by leading the club to four Premiership titles in five years, including two League and FA Cup doubles.
