Labelled "the new Ronaldo" - United are strongly linked with signing this Portuguese kid as a long term replacement for Ryan Giggs. The reported fee is in the region of £17m and Fergie is reported to have urged the Board to move, and move quickly to secure this signing from Sporting Lisbon.

MANCHESTER UNITED are poised to build on their Premiership title triumph with the £17.5million capture of Portuguese prodigy Nani. Sir Alex Ferguson has urged the United board to move swiftly to sign the Sporting Lisbon star, who has been dubbed the new Cristiano Ronaldo. Ferguson sees Nani, 20, whose favoured position is on the left of midfield, as the long-term replacement for Ryan Giggs.

Nani has a clause in his contract stating he can leave Sporting if any club comes in with a bid of £17.5m and United are determined to take advantage of that situation. With Nani sharing the same agent as Ronaldo in Jorge Mendes, United are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by landing a player who is considered one of the hottest properties in Europe.

Ronaldo and Nani came through the Sporting system together and the United star has endorsed his friend's ability and character in conversations with Ferguson. Nani has rejected the chance of a move to Atletico Madrid because he is desperate to join Ronaldo at United.

"I'll only leave Portugal to play for a club like United," said Nani. "The Premiership is spectacular and to be the next Cristiano would be a dream for me."

Any player that actually wants to play for Manchester United is good, Nani is a great player and I'm sure him and Ronaldo could rock the premiership next season. Players who go to Chelsea, all they care about is money and easy success, but at United there's players that want to work hard, play for the club and who have passion for the club. Nani would be a good player for us, I hope we get him, him and Youssouf Mulumbu.

I think Nani is keen on coming to Man Utd also we have strong ties with his club, people form his country (Ronaldo + Carlos Q the assistant manager).

I think he is better and a real performer whilst getting results. Ribery as good as he is said to be had a pretty tame world cup but my knowledge of him is limited to be honest.

i wanna see fletch as the new scholes, i know he can do it. any good player is hard to find, especially in the midfield position, we have a young exceptionally talented hard working midfielder, devil through and through, in fletch. all he needs is acceptance, respect and time.

Ribery may not be as fast or as showman like as nani, but he is a genuine footballers footballer. would be very exciting to have nani, but i think Ribs is a class act and just too dam good to miss out on,

I personally feel Nani will be better suited as we need a left winger and he fits the bill very well.

Ribery is a skilled plays and as good as Nani but I dont feel he is as physcial a player and to be honest I would be happy to have both but I feel Nani will adapt quicker to the premier league.

Nani also seems keen on the move where as Ribery seems to be touting (or his agent is) his services to any number of big clubs.

a footballers footballer can be an ugly bastard who plays football cos its all he's got, all these pretty boys are makin it harder for the average man to see the game for what it is, its the game every lad played as a kid and the game the everyman still thinks he has a chance of makin it at.

With respect a footballers look is nothing to do with his ability to play. I watch football to be entertained and watch players do what they are paid to do.

You sure do have some funny views on things. Looks is bugger all to do with it - Terry is an ugly sod but a world class player and Rudd Van Nistleroy is never gonna be on the cover of GQ magazine - bot top footballers.
