Neville is back playing and getting minutes on the pitch. We have seen his
passion and quality for many many years. Will he be the player he once was?
Should he get the nod at right back because he is captain? or will he be good
enough to push for the place?

Brown has come in at RB since Neville's injury and been extremely good. I think
he surprised a few people and was an ever present last season, where he was
consistently good week in week out and especially when it mattered most
in the big European and Premiership games.

The poll question is: First choice RB? Neville or Brown?
Discuss.

I think Wes should get be the 1st choice rb for the start of the season due to last seasons form..

Neville will have to wait for his chance and prove his fitness before he should be starting every game.. no doubt that he will eventually get his rb position back though ;)

Brown.

It would be extremely unfair on Brown if he was dropped for Neville. Brown was fantastic last season, so deserves to keep his place.

Its questionable whether Neville will come back the same player, and how he'll react to another injury. But hopefully he'll be able to come back and be the same player he was, whether hes the first choice or not.

Simpson :)
I was half considering putting him in but he will be back up at the very best.
Some people even think that he should get the nod before Neville.....
Anyway, keep the discussion flowing. Im sure Neville will get differing views.
We dont know how good he will be when he comes back. Hate to say it but he
looks a bit rusty.....(which is understandable) but will he every get over it?

Simpson for me
his attacking is awesome and he have great crosses like gary
if he cn learn how to defend better
he will be one of the world best right backs

but since he is not in the poll i voted for gary
Gary rarely puts his foot wrong
he have a classy defence
he have a better experience than brown
he dont loose his concentration like wes do
he can cross the ball perfectly and accurately
he can defend and attack better than wes

wes can head the ball better (headers) and just faster

Gary Neville > Wes Brown

Gary Neville > Wes Brown
So you would have Simmo AND Nev ahead of Brown?
Brown has no experience you say? he is an international player
who has won loads of trophies at United and played OVER 300 games
for us. He was in inspired form last season putting in mammoth
performances against the likes of Barca. He played the most games
and was very consistent. He may not be appreciated as he should
because he doesnt look as good as the other 3 (Rio, Vida, Evra) .
Thats cos they are 3 of he best in the world. And Wes holds his own
with them. Wes deserves it for me.

Simpson shouldnt even get a sniff. Neville might get some game time
but I dont think he will be the player he once was, meaning Wes is the
man we need at RB.

i appreciate brown
but neville is way to better
if neville can return his good form, wes will not be a regular
plus gary have more qualities than brown

I said Wes purely based on Nevilles game time last year and Browns performances.

If Neville can rediscover his form which I hope he does, they my mind may change.

If we were playing in a major final in one week, I'd want Brown at RB

Neat thread...

Good post, I agree with everything you said.

IMO the RB position should be Browns to lose.
When Neville got injured he had his chance and he took it, similar to how Neville made the RB spot his own after Parker got injured.

If Brown gets injured or his form dips, then Neville will have a chance to regain his spot, but the fact is not only has Brown not done anything to suggest he should be dropped, but Neville hasn't done anything to suggest he should start ahead of Brown.

I don't think Neville has the legs to overlap consistently for 90 Mins anymore, and lets face it, that was/is his best attribute.

I also don't think Simpson will make it. He is quite good going forward but defensively he is shocking, and I don't think he has improved at all since he was on loan at Sunderland. Supposedly he wasn't particularly good at Ipswich either. He had a good game vs Wigan and Kiev, but they were extremely poor, then he was tore apart vs Everton. He should be given more chances to prove himself but I don't see him being our RB if I'm being honest.

I actually think Neville will be the one who starts though.
I'm sure Fergie has said he will start the season as our RB and the fact that he's our Captain doesn't exactly help Wes.
If Gaz does start then I hope Hargreaves plays RM vs Newcastle just do offer him some protection.(remember Ronaldo is injured, Nani is suspended and Park might be out aswell)

It's a tough one to call. Which is why for now I'm saving my vote in the poll ;)

Wes was outstanding last season, his game was of a consistantly high standard and he really performed in the big games. I think that most people will agree, last season was quite simiply the best season Wes has ever played. As the season went on, I think he became more confident and adapted better to the RB position, afterall he is by trade a CB.

On the other hand there is Gary Neville. Mr reliable for United since he broke into the team in '95, and still currently the club captain. Gary has had a good pre-season so far, but as others have said on here he has looked a bit rusty. I think if Gary can get back to full fitness and play at the level he was playing at prior to his injury, then he may well become a regular starter for us again.

Couldn't agree with you more TheManc. I think based on Wes form last season, he should be first choice RB and if Gary wants to get back into the team, he should have to prove he is still a better player than Wes.

I think SAF will make the right call, I don't think sentement will come into it with Fergie, he has proved down the years that he will pick the best man for the job and if you are a player on form, you will be in the team.

We've had the best defence for the last two seasons with Wes in at right back.
As much as I want to see Nev back in the team, it'd be crazy to break up the
defence and put him straight back in. Brown is very underrated in my opinion.
He was brilliant for us last season...all season, very consistent. Nev won't be
his old self and could probably manage 20 games a season like Giggs now.

Wes should be first choice, then Nev, then Simpson.

IMO it has to be Wes. He was a rock all season. Not even
Vidic goes into a tackle as hard as Wes. He has total commitment
to United and has polished off the rough edges that oftens
dogged his game in the past. I love Gary Nev and he is already
a United legend but i dont think he has any right to be put
back in RB straight away. He will have to earn that right and
i'm sure that is his exact thought process. I hope he does
come back as strong as ever.

Wes brown for me.

true. Garry is the captain. however, due to brown's form last season(his best season in his career), he deserves the nod ahead. to me, he should be rewarded for that fine form. for that hard work he put in.

as for garry, he can push for a place again. gary is no doubt a true leader. he can lead the troops from the bench, motivate them. thats part of captain. even if he's not playing. im sure he wont mind.

brown did a great job when gary was out and until he shows that he has the form and power to play like he did, or at least almost how he did in the past, my vote is for Brown..for now...:)
