Lets discuss what you hope/expect to happen. Me I expect:

Anderson to score at least 5 goals.
Manucho to score more goals than Adebayor(if he stays in Arsenal)
Nani to develop into the second best winger in the EPL.
Ben Foster to play in all the FA Cup matches, including the final.
New striker (if we get one) to score 15 goals.
Hargreaves to shake off all the injury worries.
1999...2009. Who else believes?

Lol Abo it's unlikely Young will arrive while Ronaldo is here. Unlikely as in 100% unlikely.

My realistic expectations:

  • 1st in Premier League
  • Winners of Community Shield
  • Winners of UEFA Super Cup
  • Winners of FIFA Club World Cup
  • Past 3rd round of Carling Cup
  • Anderson & Nani to hit the next level
  • Rooney to get Golden Boot
  • Ben Foster to prove that he can be the best

  • Winning FA Cup and/or Champions League would be a huge bonus

hargreaves to solve his injury problems, contribute more in the attacking play.
carrick to find another dimension in his game, cement his position in the team.
park to fight for his starting place, keep up his energy level, be more aggressive on field, and be more physical
ronaldo(if he is still here) just to be more mature, be glad and proud to be wearing utd shirt, and stop being a *******.

(didn know that word is considered swearing also.)

Wow, people have such high expectations. As if we are the only good side haha.
I would expect a strong title challenge (be us or Chelsea to win it) and some silverware other than the Mickey Mouse Cups. Champions League and Fa cup semis are realistic targets, hopefully winning one of them.
It would be nice to see our reserves doing better in the League Cup because usually we perform atrociously in that. Be good to achieve something similar to Arsenals kids in that tournament.

As far as players go, I want to see more from Carrick, Anderson and Nani. The first two need to add new dimensions to become top top players, and for me, Nani needs to prove that hes any good at all. For £17m, he could be shaping up as one of our worst transfers, but at present I still have faith. His end product just isnt good enough. I hope to see a lot more assists, not goals, as I do not fall into the trap of comparing him to Ronaldo.

I think Rooney will do more this season and he needs to add a few more goals to be considered at the top of his game.

Why wouldnt you want the best player in the world to stay at your club... Young is second rate and would be over priced, he's not good enough if Ronaldo was to leave we would need a world class replacement!

42 goals he's in a league of his own, I expect him to stay, shrug off the early booing and do a Rio and stay for another few years collecting medals and awards for fun!

Don't diss your own player based on tabloid bull!

continue our dominance on liverpool and equal their 18 leagues
Thats the ultimate goal for next season!

I also think the FA cup should take a back seat in our order of importance, Champions League Retention should be the highest priority!!

Great post. Agree completely.
Prem is the bread and butter. Another 3 in a row would be so sweet.

As I said last season, you need a lot of luck in the CL and FA cup to win them.
It has to be your day, like it was in Moscow or alternatively like it wasnt
against Pompey in the Cup. If we had been given the penalty after a few mins
you could nearly say the trophy was in the bag.
If Terry hadnt have slipped we would have the the CL.

There is a fine line between success and failure and we just got the right side
of it. So it will be us or Chelsea to win the League. Us or 4/5 other teams to win
the CL. Same goes for teh other cups too.

We need to wait and see what happens, who we sign, who Chelsea sign?

Obviously I want the players to excel and do well. Its timefor Anderson and Nani
to justify their huge price tags and its time for Rooney to bang in 25+ goals.

good post mate, although its far to early to even suggest Nani could be a bad transfer. And remember, it wasn't 17M outright, it had loads of addons based on success.

I think Anderson needs to find his shooting boots, but most importantly improve his stamina. Obviously he'd just came back from a broken leg when he joined us so he wasn't 100% but if you remember he rarely finished the 90 mins.

hopefully he keeps another pocket in those shorts of his for Gerrard and Fabregas again ;)

I expect to see more from Tevez aswell. He played well last season but again his stamina was poor and he was burned out. A full fit, rested Tevez will be great.

I expect rooney to improve his finishing, I think I could finish better than him.... then again maybe not but you get the point.

The defence should maintain its form, though i'm worried about Neville. 16 months out for a 33 year old is a looooong time.

hopefully Saha will give the phisios a rest this year aswell.

Finally on the players front, I really think th is is a big season for Giggs, am i the only one who thought he was incredibly poor last term? The blackburn game at home was the only good game I can remember, hopefully Nani can get a bit of consistency.

League:

I expect us to be there or there abouts in the league, but people are underestimating Arsenal. Wenger will no doubt pull a few rabbits out of the hat and suprise us with a good player to replace flamini and whoever else leaves. Don't forget, they were close last season, only to bottle it once we stuffed them in the FA cup.

CL

Like jazz said this will be down to luck really. What a lot of people don't realise is that last season we had all of the second legs at OT, which obviously is an advantage.
If we can get a decent draw I'd expect us to make the 1/4's, then we'll have to have an element of luck (like all teams do) to progress further.

Also, I want ITV to do our 'important' legs, lets look at the results:

SKY:

roma - 2-1 LOSS
Milan - 3-0 LOSS
Roma - 1-0 WIN
Barca - 0-0 DRAW

Lets compare that to ITV:

Roma - 7-1 WIN
Milan - 3-2 WIN
Roma - 2-0 WIN
Barca - 1-0 WIN

plus i watched the final on ITV.

(as you can see i'm very supersticious)(sp?)

FA Cup

Well its about bloody time we got a decent draw in the competition, I get the feeling Fergie wants this again as we have'nt won it for a while, and have lost the last 2 finals.

I think we'll be there or there abouts.

World Club Championships:

I can't see us not taking this seriously, but we have to play our 'ball players' herem especially in the final as if we an Argentinian team/Brazil team, the are are very techical.

I wouldn't play scholes either unless we play at night as, like at WC's, the weather is to hot for him with his pale skin/asthma.

I think we should win this, just imagine, champions of England, champions of Europe, champions of the world! :D

Super Cup

I will be very dissapointed if we don't win this as its just 1 game. Yes its not a big trophy, but the world will be watching (even more so) so lets show we are the best.

Carling Cup:

Again we will use this for the youngsters, Although we have such a big squad now we might need this for players to get games.

Hopefully we'll see the likes of Evans, Rodrigo, Fabio, Manucho etc play. Hopefully the likes of Martin, Cathcart and eagles(if hes still with us) will NOT play. I'm all for playing the 'kids', but only those who actually have a realistic chance of making it. I think its obvious that the likes of the names I mentioned are'nt gonna make it, so why put them in at the expense of others? I'd rather we play our first team that players who aren't gonna make it.

and finall, the most important one of all, the Community Shield:)D )

meh, we'll probably play a strong team, though a few of the finge players may play. The only reason I am determind to win this is because its versus the team who (along with every bit of luck in the world) prevented us from getting a second treble as I am pretty sure we could use the players who didn't play in the CL final to beat Cardiff.

Nice topic.

I think we should ofcourse be right up there challenging for the league. Even if we do not win, aslong as we're right up there it will be a good effort still but ofcourse i want and think we are capable of winning it. However if ronaldo leaves i think while we are still capable of winning it, the task will be much more difficult.

As for cup competitions...naturally to get to the knockout stages of the champions league and then anyone can win after that...

i'd love for us to win the fa cup...great tournament...

Carling cup run would be great but it would be nice if we had some real potential in the reserves/young players to showcase in that tournament and hope they reach as far as possible.

In terms of individuals...Hopefully since giggs still has another year in him , he'll continue providing assits and have a better season than this time because its still too early to rely on someone of nanis age in the league for a whole campaign..especially with him in only his second year in england.

Scholes to prove his worth in a consistant basis and show his legs havent gone just yet!!...we all know of his other qualities.

defence to have another blinder!!

Anderson i worry for IF ronaldo does not stay because he always seemed to be the target man for ronaldo...like his release ball, he always had a go to guy to pass the ball to and play, they had a good understanding. Anyway either way i hope anderson continues his progress and becomes fitter and stronger and an even better player. Not expecting anything special yet...he is wayy too young and early in is career. Hope he stays fit though.

Nani i expect glimpes of huge potential mixed in with moments of frustrations...Very talented but not yet ready for a whole season as number one chioce yet.

Rooney i want to see score 25 of his chances because he'll get/create more and still have his 15/20 assists....if his finishing improves thats not asking alot.

Ronaldo if he stays who knows how he'll play...can he really top the season he just had?

I just hope our team stays very strong and fit and that we play amazing football thats exciting to watch and we're successful.

Nice post.

I agree that some of the people who have posted on this thread might have very lofty expectations. To do well in two competitions is a great feat, to do well in 7 is a different thing altogether.

I agree on Carrick, Nani and Anderson as do most fans. Nani and Anderson should step up and Carrick needs to grow some cojones and combine his talent with a meaner attitude + become more of a leader.

I can't agree with your statment about Nani shaping up to be one of our worst purchases.

His price tag was 13million pounds not 17, that was Anderson's price tag.

Secondly, in pure numbers, Nani contributed a lot last season, making several assists in the premier league and CL, while scoring goals against Spurs, Boro, Arsenal and Liverpool.

His corner-taking, from which he made some of those assists, is also top-notch and he's probably the best corner taker at the club at the moment.

So while he needs to mature, as well as become his own man, he contributed a lot last season and is not near the worst transfers ever category.

Price/performance ration, I think Veron, Kleberson and Forlan have got made that honour untouchable. ;)

Malouda and Babel cost the same amount of money and didn't contribute nearly as much to their teams as Nani contributed to Man Utd.

I think we'll win the Community Shield and the Super Cup.

We're capable of reaching the final of the World Club Championship but the Brazilian teams have a very good record in the final so we could be winners or runners-up imo.

Retaining the Champions League will be very, very difficult and I think we'll probably get to the quarter or semi-finals.

Winning the Premier League has to be the priority. I can't wait for the day when we surpass Liverpool's league title record and equalling it next season would be brilliant. Chelsea will definitely be in the mix and who knows how Arsenal and Liverpool will perform.

I'd really like us to win the FA Cup next season. It'll have been 5 years since our last triumph in the competition by the end of the season and, as the most successful club in the history of the tournament, I feel it's our time to lift the trophy again.

We rarely take the League Cup seriously so I think 4th round for that.

Realistically we are in 7 cups there's no two ways about it, it won't be easy, hardly
any teams have won the WCC and then their league which is why i think we need to invest in a few more back ups!

So ....

Win the Charity Shield Vs Pompey.

Win the Super Cup.

Get knocked out the league cup 3rd round (hopefully :p)

Anderson to finally score.

Nani & Anderson to progress incredibly, and cement first team places.

Win either one of the Champions League/Premiership, for example Quarters (at least) in europe and 1st in Prem or 2nd in Prem and win CL :D

To have a decent FA Cup run where we are able to try out some young 'uns Possebon, Welbeck, Campbell hopefully we won't draw Villas/Arsenal/Pompey this time, more like ... Oxford/Hereford etc.

Oh and in the WCC, win it comfortably and in style hopefully smashing teams 5+ more goals with alot of youngsters getting games/goals!

At the end of the season I would expect at least two from Giggs/VDS/Nev's/Scholesy to retire or move on for one last season.

Am I the only one who thought Carrick played brilliantly and was our best CM last season? After a slow start once he got his partnership with Anderson going he was brilliant, and he carried that on with Scholes 'til the end of the season IMO.
