Evans, without a doubt.

I honestly don't see Gibson or Possebon having much of a future here. They both look very average thus far.

Foster is what? 26? 27? Hardly young in the football world. By goalkeepers' standards I suppose he is though...
True, we sort of assume that seeing as Ben has been at United since
he was young and never broke into the first team that he's a youngster.

Then again, remember that Evans gets games because
we only have 2 first team CBs, if we had 2 first team CMs
Rodrigo would definitely get much more games.

The reason we only have "2 first team cb's" is because Evans is so good he is our 3rd man. Why would we waste time on other established names at the back when we can have Evans? Fergie knows that.

In midfield, it's a different story.

But we've seen countless number of times that Fergie shares Busby's view in that "if they are good enough, they are old enough", and he isn't afraid to move established names on. (Hughes, Ince, Kanchelskis, Beckham, Ruud etc)
Not really, it's because they're not injury prone. If Hagreaves and Carrick
weren't injury prone Gibson, Anderson and Fletcher wouldn't get any games.

It doesn't matter whether they are injury prone or not.

Carrick isn't any more injury prone than anyone else in the squad. That's just bollocks. fair enough on OH.

Carrick was fit for the Chelsea game, but Fergie still played Fletcher. Fletcher is a good player and is very underrated still. He warrants his place in the team.

If Fergie thought Possebon/Gibson were good enough to be regular squad members then he will move the senior boys on - he's done it before he'll do it again. Why wouldn't he?

Every player needs cover. Evans is out best kid because he's considered a first team player, and is number one replacement for Vidic/Rio ahead of Neville, Brown and O'Shea.
Evans has to compete with Rio, Vidic, Neville, Brown and O'Shea for a place
in CB. Possebon has to compete with Fletcher, Anderson, Hargreaves,
Giggs, Scholes, O'Shea, Gibson and Carrick.
Notice a difference yet?

I know that.

I am discussing the reasons WHY.

Evans is first choice replacement because he is good, can handle the pressure, and is a better player than that of his rivals [to centre back].

Fergie would let Possebon and Gibson have a similar role to Evans but in centre midfield, if he deemed them good enough. At this current stage in their respective careers he doesn't. If/when they become top class players, Fergie would have no hesitation moving on the more established stars if he feels the youngsters are good enough to command a first team slot.

He's done it before, what stops him doing it again.

If Anderson stays still for another few years, Scholes' retirement is nigh, Hargreaves is a crock, and Fletcher is a squad player.
I think that we have a lot of CMs because they tendentially get injured
more, get tired more easily and sometimes we will play with 3 CMs (don't
think it's happened this year but it did in the previous years). We don't
have many natural CBs because our main two are solid, in their prime and
not injury prone. For this reason Evans gets a fair amount of playing time
and thus is rated highly and the same could apply to Rafael.

I argue that if Possebon, or Fabio da Silva come to think of it, got as much
time on the pitch as Rafael or Evans then they would be more highly
thought of. I watch the Reserves and U-18 as much as possible and
while Possebon's performances have been fluctuating a bit, they are
both excellent players. Unluckily for them, their competition is at a
higher level than Rafael's and simply more numerous than Evans'.

Plymouth ;)

Anyway, I think Evans is the obvious choice. He's a great defender, and will become one of, if not the, best defenders in the World when he hits his peak.

Some of the other names have a good chance of making it here, but Evans is well ahead atm imo.
Eckersley ain't goin nowhere except in the same direction
as his brother.

No. He has played pretty much all his games at CB and Rio was injured, not suspended.
Evans has played around 25 games for United this season. He got the cup games, some CL action
and other Prem games filling in for Rio. Nothing to do with suspension.

He wasnt being smart in the slightest. He actually put up some great points.

Spot on. If Posse and Gibbo were good enough they would get more games, and at the moment they arent good enough to replace who is in front of them. You have this argument nailed down Stee.
Nice assessment about the midfield variation.
Rio was injured, Vidic suspended, Evans played.

What is it that you don't understand?

I didn't say Possebon is good enough, I'm saying that due to the
amount of players ahead of him in midfield he hasn't been able to
showcase his talent and POTENTIAL. What I'm saying is that
Possebon has the potential to become a world class player, possibly
more potential than Johnny Evans who, due to him having to compete
with O'Shea and Wes Brown who, apart from being fairly mediocre, are
not CBs, has had more time on the pitch, thus showing his talent.

It's not hard to understand, please try harder.
