United play flowing attacking, passing football with confidence and guts for most of the season to put them in a great position and then what does Fergie start doing? He seems to be getting the team to retreat into their shell and show far too much respect to teams that just aren't as good as us. Does he enjoy a tight finish to things?

Why didn't he just treat the Chelsea game as free go at winning the title and get them playing without fear? There's one thing worse than losing a title or a Champions League title. I'll tell you what it is...that's looking back thinking "if only we had just expressed ourselves and played our normal game we would have done it" That's regret that your can't get over. If United blow it all then Fergie is to blame for putting the shackles on a team that was unstoppable 3 weeks ago.

It's ridiculous. United cannot win the title like this by not being true to who they are as a team. If he lets them play and Chelsea trun out to be better than us then so be it - but Fergie wants his tactical victory doesn't he ?, to somehow show he's a Macel Lippi or something. But that's never been the United way. Leave that tactic to Chelski Fergie , they are better at it! True Champions do not retreat into their shell when the heat is on. United have gone from strutting around the park scoring almost at will to playing the worst football in the top 7.

I remember Fergie years ago shouting at Dennis Irwin "keep playing football , dennis!!! " . I also remember Fergie arguing with a pundit after United's 99 semi final win v arsenal saying " you know it could all blow up in my face , but people will remember nights like these " He was being criticised for playing a strong team with the Juve game coming up. What's happened? Is he getting long in the tooth? Football at this stage is all about momentum and keeping the football going that has carried you that far. Before long this team won't remember what it's like to actually have a go. Top teams do not wait to go 1-0 down before they start playing. Is fergie stopping this team from becoming great by making them cautious and fearful? I hope he takes the gloves off soon otherwise we might be left wondering what might have been.

Ye i agree with this. for the last few matches, Arsenal, Middlesboro, Blackburn, Chelsea, it is them taking the lead and then us starting to play. Why we don't start off like this I will never know.

In terms of what your saying the only way we won't regret what happened in the last couple of games is to win the league and qualify for the CL final. The last couple of games were the most difficult we could have had but this will change imo.

Barca at home, i believe we will attack. If we get a result there it will give us confidence to attack in the next few games so hopefully there will be no regrets.

You make some good points, but we have gone to tough places like
Ewood park, Nou Camp and Stamford Bridge where it will be hard for
ANY team in World football.

You mention the gloves coming off....and I think they will. Playing at home
is the main reason. The Barca game and Hammers game are MUST win,
so we will play the United way, by attacking.

I think we need to see how this week pans out and then refer to your post,
which by the way is well written and contains some good valid points.

But if we win against Barca, then surely Fergie will have 'got it right' and in turn
throws your argument of defensive football out the window.
2 legs in this semi and its still all to play for.

We could always afford to lose to Chelsea, though not an ideal situation.

Fergie knows what he is doing and I have full faith in him.
If this week is disasterous then we shall look back at your post and agree fully.

Let's hope I'm miserably and utterly wrong eh?? Nothing would please me more than to have egg all over my face. I would say that my thoughts are based on our current performance levels. In football you can't control the results , only your performance and I just wonder if we have become too results focussed. I think we should just play our football and have faith in it , the rest will follow. It all comes down to courage and belief at this stage and we are not showing a lot of it.

Totally agree. We played our free flowing attacking game for most of the season and it has worked for us. Why change it now at this crucial point of the season?

we have to play defensively away from home..not so much as we did as we could have attacked more......we put out a team which is not full strnegth against chelsea and we payed the price for it....but we had 3 away game....nou camp, ewood park and ST are not grounds where you will get an easy 3 points....we have to fight for one point and then if we played well enough we get 3...we just didnt play well enough..and that si it....
now we have 2 home games and 1 away match and maybe even a game in a neutral ground...if we win all of them we win 2 cups...or else we win only 1 or none at all....we just have to play the united way and that is the best way!!!

Can you imagine the agony if Chelsea do the double and United fans look at it and think " if only we had attacked" . We are the best team in the league and in Europe , let's stop *****ing about and prove it!
