Chelsea's Obi "wanted to go to Man Utd"
tribalfooball.com - February 12, 2008

Despite his protests, Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel was DESPERATE to join Manchester United, a court has heard.

The Daily Mail says Obi Mikel was in tears the day he signed for Chelsea because he wanted to join Manchester United, a court in Norway has heard.

Obi was at the centre of a three-way tug of war in 2006 with Manchester United, Chelsea and Norwegian club Lyn Oslo all insisting he was their player.

Lyn director Morgan Andersen, who has pleaded not guilty to forging a contract that indicated his club had the rights to Obi, told the court about a meeting with Chelsea representatives and the midfielder's agent, John Shittu.

Andersen said: "It was like meeting the Sopranos. In the meeting they behaved in a threatening way. We claimed we had the rights to Obi but Shittu said we would regret the deal.

"Soon after, Obi's agent took him to the airport in Oslo. They went to London. Obi was crying and we didn't see him for a long time after that.

"His mind was set on Manchester United. He was very happy when the deal was done and he wanted to go to United."

Obi's future was resolved in June 2006 when the clubs reached an agreement, with Chelsea paying United £12million and Lyn £4m. The court case continues.

Now, when knowing all this, and let's suppose it's true - I ask you -would you accept him back should he put in a transfer request to join us ?
To tell you the truth I think he's a great holding midfielder and although we don't need any at the moment would clearly think about it

Good thing we got the 12£ to some other player than him imo. He is such a xxxxxxx xxxx on the pitch, and maybe that is because he is with chels.

Edited by Carly ... No language like that please - we have 13 and 14 year olds here !!

Think it should be under Football Banter by now.:D

Whether it was the truth or not, or whether he was indeed coerced to lie with his eyes wide opened, it is perfectly alright now. I believe we are better off with Hargreaves/Anderson, any time.

But if it is ineed the truth, he only has himself to blame.

put yourself in his position - if someone threatned you( especially when living abroad at such a young age) would you think 2 before making a rush decision...and take into consideration that he was just a young kid back then... there are a lot od fishy jobs around football.. it was believed that a manager of our national player Ivica Olic had been highjacked and put into a car trunk and driven around a city untill his player signed a contract with a certain club... wherever there's money, there are dark jobs involved mate

Who knows the truth? Even if it is indeed the truth, we still have to move on....

He's a quality player but some of his tackling is just awful. He seems to go very high over the ball and the way he's going, it'll only be a matter of time before we see a broken bone. He's not the only player to do this of course, but it is not the generally accepted way to play like that at United, except Roy Keane lol. And I think he only meant it once. Also Scholes can't tackle for toffee but there's never any intent to injure anyone, which is debatable with Mikel. I'm glad he went to Chelsea because it means we only paid about 4 million for Carrick who helped us towards our first league win in three seasons. Stop crying your eyes out Obi :p

This saga went on for months and actually involved kidnapping.

Fact: Mikel signed on the dotted line in front of witnesses, of both clubs, and their respective legal reps. No coercement was ever applied.

Fact: Abramobitch decide that United were not going to get their hands on this promising starlet and sent people into Norway, including a banned agent, to unsettle the player and possibly "make threats" - (Russian mafia here let us not forget.)

The player was actually forcibly removed from Lynn and flown under "guard" to London where he vanished. Then stories began to appear in the press that "he had been forced to sign for United" and than he "had been bullied" into signing; it even went as far as he "never actually signed anything" and "chelski is where I have always wanted to play, there was no other team".

United were in the right and it was legally and ethically proved that United had done no wrong. Which is why the powers that be, scared to take Abramobitch on, decided that chelski owed United £12m for his signature.

Since his arrival at Chelski Mikel has proved to be a spoilt brat and takes a dive at the faintest wisp of air in the ground. We are well shut of the little git and we, United, do not want him.

he seems like a bit of a *****. He does some horrible tackles with his studs up , must be learning tricks from essien, though essien is a good player. Cannot really comment to much further on obi because i have not seen much of him past me watchin the odd chelsea match (do they really play football?) but i couldnt care less that he doesnt play for us. Infact after all the saga involving him, i'm glad we got all the money we did for him and are a better team without him. Don't need him anyway.
