Ok, assuming Ronaldo stays put for another year or whatever and we have £50m to spend

What do you do with the money? We've just won the League and European Cup Double and another year of full houses in home games so we should have a similar amount of money to make a statement in the world of football again, so you have £50m, who do you buy?

The general consensus is that we need a right back and a striker, i'd personally try to sign David Villa or Berbatov for £25m and slap the other £25m on the best right back in the world, Daniel Alves. WHo still hasnt joined Barca, we could easily sneak in there with them hesitating so much.

Next seasons team would look like this

Edwin Van Der Saar

Alves
Ferdinand
Vidic
Evra

Ronaldo
Carrick/Hargreaves
Scholes/Anderson
Nani/Giggs

Rooney
Berbatov or Villa/Tevez

Thoughts, guys? Who would you bring in.

Pretty sure alves has joined barca but not been made official yet, so that leaves lahm, richards or ramos. I am pretty sure lahm has just signed a new deal so either ramos or richards.
The i would like either eto or villa up front as i think berbatov is a goo player but an arse.
I would also like us to sign van der vaart as i think he could add another attacking edge to midfield.

I don't think we particularly NEED a right back because
Wes did brilliantly last season. But a better wing back
like Lahm would definitely add another attacking dimension
to our forward play.

We have no chance of getting Richards in my opinion
because Frank Sinatra will open his wallet and offer him
more than United would.

We do however need an out and out centre forward like
Benzema or Berbatov. It seems like benzema would rather
go to madrd sowe have to look to the Spuds and sign
Berbatov. He's a class target man who holds the ball up
well and brings others into play. He scores 20 a season
and creates many others too.

So yeah, lahm and berbatov would be brilliant signings
if we can get them.

I dont think Alves is even in the running! Plus, we don;t need him. Why would we shell out for him when we just extended WES BROWN for all his good work aaaand we still have our club captain awaiting a return (still a few years left in those old legs of Gary's.

Ronaldo is DEFINATELY going (you can just tell) so we will need to sign a Right Winger/Midfielder...Probably either Kaka (my fav), Queresma or Van der Vart

I think another striker is definately on the cards and this will be the most intriguing transfer...who will it be??? I think Saha is gone for all money...so it will be either Berbatov (inside running EVEN if I would not like it!), Etoo (outsider), Villa (unlikely, but will ponder it I'm sure)

Lahm would be ideal for me as he can be cover for both lb and rb and for me would be the first choice rb and if silvestre leaves we need a lb backup for evra in case of injury.

Villa would be the ideal replacement for Ruud and is something we lacked all of last season - that clinical finisher.

Last I have heard Alves's deal was confirmed and he even gave a out quotes saying how he is glad to sign for Barca. Richards would also be an option but will not give that lb backup that is why I prefer Lahm. Other names I would like to see would be Ramos, Mendy, Sagnol and Miguel for the rb position. Other names I would like to see at United for the striker department would be Benzema, Huntelaar, and Eto'o (his on sale). Any two would be fine for defensive and attacking cover.

I really want us to sell Fletcher and get someone like Moutinhio, Sneijder, Van Der Vaart, Schwinstiger, Rakitic, Ronaldinhio (because he is on sale), Veloso, and etc - basically a quality midfielder with lots of talent and can play for a big club and if an offer comes in the club would accept if high enough. I would rather see one of them listed than see Fletcher run around in the CL final next year.

I know I listed some guys who are not on sale like Sneijder and Ramos but I would love to see them both at OT. Perhaps if Ronaldo goes for the switch to Real?

alves will be good but would rather have lahm.....alves is not the best defender and he will let the defenders go past easily and so to ramos....so would like lahm
in the strikers department i wuld like to see villa come as he is deadly but berba would be decent....in the long term would like benzema......
and if we do need someone else then arshavin as scholes is getting old and anderson is still to young to see regular football for us....

Philip Lahm is no longer an option so people should stop mentioning his name as a possibility. He has just signed a new contract with Bayern so he is staying with them. He only had on year left on his contract and Barcelona were also very interested so he was in the perfect position to leave if he wanted to, but he signed a new contract to stay at Bayern. It is now impossible for us to sign him, it is also impossible to sign Richards or Ramos so lets be realistic.

Right back.
Wes brown had an excellent season last year perhaps thats not enough
Gary nevelle is back may be we need more,
John O'Shea can play at the right back but he is not regular nor is a star player Danny simpson but he is a youth team player and we want to buy a new one
Owen Hargreves can play at right back but it will weaken the central midfield.

With the options we have we need not buy a right back and pay silly money on a player we do not need

Not much to add on the topic of Daniel Alves. He's not my preferred target, because of what others have said:
a) there is NO burning need for a right back.
b) Alves is not as god defensively as other potential targets.

If we got a right back, it would have to be either Richanrds or Lahm. However, both are less than likely, because Lahm will extend his contract due to aconvincing phone call from Juergen Klinnsmann, who will manage Bayern next season and Mark Hughes will tell Frank to keep Richards at all costs.

If Silvestre leaves then we would desperately need some decent cover for Evra.

Another area is a clinical finisher here. And out of all the names, my preferred choice is Klaas-Jan Huntelaar!

Yes, I would be pleased as punch, if we got Berba, but Huntelaar is younger, more agile and scores those pretty bicycle kicks. PLUS he scores even when he;s not playhing well.

David Villa will have a HUGE price tag with the Euros he;s having and I would only want him, if we're not making the Tevez deal permanent.

I would also like Ashley Young. ROnaldo is going to leave one day and we had better be prepared. Ashley Young would be a very good replacement.

I think Sergio Ramos is a brilliant player and I CAN see him playing at OT. He's great in the air, a solid defender and score's a fair few oals so him I woould welcome. Roque Santa would be good for us, tall, direct, good in the air and powerful.

Great post. I think Wes deserves his chance to continue at rb.
he barely put a foot wrong all season. and we have Nev to come back in.
lahm is just amazing, he is the only one I would take tbh.
Ramos and overrated, Alves thinks he's a winger, Richards....maybe, but doubtful.

Berbatov is the man I want to see leading our strike force next season.
Other possiblities would be Huntelaar, Santa Cruz, Eto'o and Villa,
although Im not sure how many of them are reaslistic targets or not.

We dont need much really, just a striker imo, but Id take Lahm in a heartbeat.

Ronaldo is going to leave, but I'll just play along anyway.

If Ronaldo stays, then I would say we just need a striker (only if Manucho gets a fair crack of the whip as well ;))

Not Berbatov for me. No doubting his ability, but his attitude doesn't stink, it absolutely reeks! I would love to see Eto'o, because I think we need a player who is pacey and can run in behind. If not Eto'o, then probably Santa-Cruz (yes I know he doesn't run in behind, but I would like to see one of these 2 ;))

But I would say we don't need a right-back because....

..here goes...

...I would play Danny Simpson. I think hes going to be a great right-back and I would play him. Yes, hes only young, but I think hes ready and I would like to see him as No 1 RB. And I honestly don't think hes going to progress much further until we play him regularly. And if it doesn't work (which is a BIG IF imo,) we've always got Neville and Brown to replace him.

But I can't see it happening.

And thats about it really.

I don't think we should sell anyone (apart from Ronaldo)

*Waits for backlash from all angles*

If Ronaldo goes, then add a top quality winger to that, probably Arshavin. And I hope that Silvestre doesn't go as, imo, he is great cover for Evra, as he is a great left-back.
