Today at Old Trafford...United weren't playing so you'd think the surface had a
break for the weekend...

..wrong!

Rugby Leagues Super Cup Final (Or something like that) was played there as is
every year recently.

Now, we all saw the rain at Ewood Park, and it was said that the weather was
rather similar in Manchester. So add that to the mucky style of rugby, sliding
players, rucks, scrums etc...

The pitch takes a battering, and United are often critised over the condition of
their home pitch in the latter stages of the seasons.

Do you think that the club should allow the rugby league in for their final?
Obviously money is involved but its the players whi have to seal with it later in
the season...

Its a football stadium and I hate the fact that the club allow it!

Unless they're getting millions, then why the heck do it and ruin the pitch? Our
pitch is an embarrassment at times and this event is doing us no favours...and
consider the torrential conditions this evening!

it's a silly decision when you consider the condition the pitch gets into every year , although it has nothing to do with the rugby it's because the stadium is so high and the wind can't air the ground that cause's the real problem.but still we should minimalise the games at the end of the day utd can pay the penalty if it stops us performing our flowing football for a number of games.
lower down the leagues there are a few dual purpose stadiums these days and the football/rugby does not really ruin the , pitch to my surprise.

In the larger scheme of things, I'd prefer the ptch not be used for anything but Man Utd games.

No concerts or rugby.

Even if you get a bomb for it, a lousy pitch in january can hurt your chances, especially the way United like to play.

At least the pitch will have two weeks to recuperate now.

I hate rugby, so my view might be clouded. :p

But seriously though, now that Wembleys finished, why on Earth do they need to play it at Old Trafford?

And is rugby that crap they need to borrow a football stadium for a game? :p

Old Trafford is a football stadium. End of.

Why should they have to travel all the way to London to play/watch a final involving two Northern teams ?
Same thing that supporters of all Northern Football teams have complained about for many years.

There is no Rugby Stadium big enough to hold that size a crowd.

Old Trafford is a football stadium. End of.
Also i have no interest in egg chasers and agree with everything about the pitch.

But there is also BIG money involved and i'd say United do quite well out of the deal or they wouldn't allow it.

Why should they let that **** sport play at OT.
Find your own stadium.

At least we will profit from it and there is a 2 week
international break, otherwise i don't think they
would of allowed it
.
Of course they would have allowed it. They play the Super League Final at Old Trafford
every year. I used to go every time Wigan got to the final because for some reason
that's who my Dad supports. It's definitely not a new thing, it's been played there for
at least ten years I think.

I don't see a problem with this. Old Trafford is the best stadium in the country (aside
from maybe Wembley) and it will always be in demand for events such as this. We
make a bundle of money out of it and the 'damage' to the pitch has never affected
the performances of United.

Worrying over nothing.

Glad you posted that, knew it was quiet a while so i went to check when it was.

100% correct, first one was 1998. :)

Found some other interesting facts as well.

First rugby match at OT was in 1958.

1986 - Old Trafford hosts rugby league for the first time.

Final of the Rugby League World Cup 2000.

Besides pop concerts it's also been used to stage the
World Super middle weight Championship fight between Chris Eubank
and Nigel Benn in 1993.

It is also the only Football League ground with a five star rating
in this country. :D

Only the best will do for the best, the rest have to make do with second best. :D

.

Yep...the only 5 star rated one in England....theres such strict conditions for a stadium
to pass to get the rating...from the lights to the number of photographers that can fit
behind each goal!!

Anfield, Villa Park and a few others have 4 stars...and the Emriates not even 4!!!:p

Anywhos, sorry of going off topic there:eek:lol

Well it ultimately comes down to the money factor. Its money that rules. We see that everywhere and more so in football (read Robinho). I personally feel, like others, that the Old Trafford pitch should only be used for football matches and absolutely not for other sports and more so Rugby because of their style of play. The pitch gets shattered due to it. But we can't do anything reagarding this. Its all upto the people at Old Trafford and the money involved.
