Fergie - January deals unlikely
United boss confident squad is good enough

Sir Alex Ferguson has suggested he is unlikely to add to his Manchester United squad during the January transfer window.

During the summer, the United boss spent in excess of £50million in bringing Owen Hargreaves, Anderson, Nani and Carlos Tevez to Old Trafford.

Reports have suggested that Ferguson could be tempted to raid the market for a striker in the New Year, with Dimitar Berbatov and Nicolas Anelka linked with the Premier League champions.

But Ferguson believes past experience shows that signing new players in the winter is not always an immediate source of success.

"I think the squad is good enough," Ferguson told Manchester United's official magazine Inside United.

"We don't always get great joy in January, I have to say.

"It takes time for players to settle in when they are midway through the season - look at what happened with Evra and Vidic when they arrived - so we are conscious of that. I think the squad is good enough."

Having already voiced his belief that the current United squad is the strongest of his 21-year reign, Ferguson appears willing to let his current players shoulder the burden in the second half of the season.

The Scot knows Paul Scholes, Park Ji-sung, Ben Foster and Mikael Silvestre will all return from major injuries at various points over the next few months, deepening his reserves of strength still further.

He added: "Maybe we are short of cover in the left-back area now Gabriel Heinze has left, but other than that, we are okay.

So only a new left-back this season?

We need another striker I feel. In 1999/2000 we had Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjær, at the moment we only have Louis Saha, Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez, we need one more striker.

I am not sure about no signings......

Look how much we struggled at Bolton without Rooney.....

With Saha injured more often than he is fit and even when fit, a yard of the pace sadly, we may need a striker, perhaps someone on loan like we did with Larsson last season......

We don't need anyone at all though in defence or midfield and we have three superb goal-keepers....

Last season,we have Wayne Rooney,Giuseppe Rossi,Alan Smith & Louis Saha. Thus, that won us the title with 4 strikers available.Louis Saha was fit for the first-half of the season. And when he's not,Alan Smith came back for him. Moreover, Rooney & Rossi was fit for throughthout the whole season. So I think an extra striker is required, regardless of a starter or a non-starter.

that was the whole team. Look back at all the stupid games we have lost, its not the lack of this player or that, its coomplacency. The players went out against Bolton thinking they had already won, and it showed. Complacency. We do it at least 4 times a year. We get cocky, lordy lordy, better than youuuuuuuuuu!!!

Look at the games we lost the season before last, 6 I believe. We lost 4 or 5 of them to "minor teams" who should never have beaten us in a trillion years.

We were without Ronaldo, Park, Scholes and saha was playing his first 90 minutes in a year. So we were missing 5 of our attacking players, what team wont be affected with that ?

No we didnt. Rossi was out on loan for the entire season. Smith didnt start playing until late February. And Saha went missing from the start of the year. Only Rooney was 'available' for the entire season.

I do want another striker. I dont think it should be a priority but it would be nice to have another striker in the squad. But in January, players prices are inflated even more as teams wouldnt want to lose their best players midway through the season. With Park and Scholes coming back, I believe we'll have enough attacking options that I feel would be enough for the season.

i think w/ tevez and rooney up front and saha as a sub there shouldn't be any problems, in case 2 of those pple gets injured SAF can always put giggs or like anderson (maybe) up front
