Apparently this is happening, and if so I find this quite a coup for Newcastle, this guy is excellent although has suffered from bad choices of club; NFC maybe another but we'll see. Newcastle have a decent forward selection, but they really need to sort their defence out of they want to get anywhere near the top of mid table.

This is quite possible as his current club Zaragoza have been relegated
I believe. I thought a few more clubs might have been in for him by now,
along with the striker Diego Milito.

Pablo Aimar has always been one of my favourite players, I don't know why he hasn't made it to a huge club like Milan or Barcelona. I feel disappointed about the way his career has gone, with his talent he should have won major trophies at a big club. But if he moves to a club like Newcastle now at the age of 28, i feel his career will of been unfulfilled as this is surely his last opportunity to get a big move. I don't know why Valencia decided to sell him, he was arguably the best player they had at the time. Pablo Aimar is surely also guilty of making the wrong choices in his career and choosing the wrong clubs. When he was at River Plate there were other clubs who wanted to sign him apart from Valencia, if he had chosen another club that appreciated him more things could of turned out better for him. It is also truly confusing as to why he decided to join Zaragoza, surely there must of been better options available. Even now I think Aimar would be the perfect replacement for Deco at Barcelona, I would sign him in an instant.

Nice post banarama. Aimar is a great great player but never fulfilled the
potential everyone knew he had. he would have been great in the Prem but
breaking news says he is off to Benfica.

Thats Ronaldihno and Aimar that we have missed out on seeing in the Prem.
Poor Citeh :D

Newcastle and Everton have missed out on Pablo Aimar after the Argentina international completed a move to Benfica.

The Premier League duo had been linked with a swoop for the talented midfielder following Real Zaragoza's relegation at the end of last season.

But Aimar, nicknamed 'The Clown', has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the Portuguese side after they agreed a €7.5million (£6million) fee with Zaragoza.

The move will come as a major blow to the Magpies, who had high hopes of bringing the creative Aimar to St James' Park.
Sparse

And Toon goalkeeper Steve Harper has admitted that they are in need of some new faces - to lift the club, and fill their new dressing room.

Harper told the Daily Mirror: "We're pretty depleted. We've lost four or five players and the dressing room is pretty sparse.

"We've got a nice new dressing room and there are a lot of empty spaces, so it would be nice to see those filled up.

"We've still got a few weeks to do that, and of course we want to see new arrivals. We were maybe two or three short last year, given the injuries we had and we've lost three or four.

"I'm sure the manager and those upstairs are working hard behind the scenes to bring in the people we need because new faces would give everyone, players and fans alike, a big lift."
