Ji-sung Park's recent form has delighted Sir Alex Ferguson – but the United boss may be unaware of just how big a contribution the Korean has made.

The 1-0 win over Roma in Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg was the livewire winger's 17th start in the last two seasons – and the Reds have won every one of those games.

His tireless running caused no end of problems for the Roma defence and he narrowly failed to cap an excellent night with a late goal when goalkeeper Doni deflected his effort onto the roof of the net.

It was the latest of several impressive displays that Park has made since returning from a long-term knee injury at Christmas to boost the Reds' title tilt.

In his nine starts since the turn of the year, United have scored 18 goals and conceded none, a remarkable run which includes the 4-0 FA Cup win over Arsenal as well as the home and away victories over Roma.

“He has shown absolutely the right attitude and risen to the occasion when called upon,†Ferguson told United Review before Wednesday's game. “This boy is a very good player.

“He is incredible in training with tremendous energy and it might just be worth pointing out that a couple of his recent first-team appearances have seen us beat Arsenal 4-0 and Fulham 3-0 with other wins when he has played like 1-0 at Derby and 2-0 against Portsmouth. He never lets us down!â€

Reds legend Paddy Crerand was equally fulsome in his praise of the 27-year-old.

"The team Sir Alex put out against Roma shows that the manager is utilising his squad," Crerand told MUTV. "It demonstrates the strength of the squad that United won 1-0 and made it through to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

"Park is the perfect example. He has done exceptionally well since he came back from injury, and he was excellent again against Roma.

"He is a player that has been out for a long period with injury. And when players are out for a long time, you sometimes forget how good they are until you see them playing again.

"Park has got great energy and his movement really troubles teams. He's a valuable asset to the team."

Better start him against Arsenal, Chelsea and Barca then!!!

Park is a good player. His willingness to give 100% every time he steps out on the pitch, his tireless running and his 'team player' attitude are his best attributes but he's a decent passer and crosser of the ball and chips in with a few goals as well.

He can play across the midfield, so is a very useful squad member, and, barring any further long-term injuries, could be at United for a few more years.

he is an energy player. the team looks more lively with him around, and at this time of year, we definitely need his energy and his tireless running and workrate. he is now the fresher player in the squad and that could prove vital in our last push towards the titles.

I love Park ji sung so much! Excellent player, a very hard worker, not selfish at all and has immense amounts of energy and keeps on running at the opposition till they are dead tired! He should start versus Arsenal on Sunday on the wings with Ronaldo and Hagreaves should also start imo.

yep agree with everyone's views above about Park. He was excellent against Boro when he came on and I genuinely think he is the most underrated player in the squad. A terrific player who should start on Sunday as at this present juncture he leaves giggs in the ha'penny place in terms of effectiveness for the team.Have to say I was not aware of that 100% statistic above but I am not surprised as like Rooney who has a similar talismanic record not only has he a great attitude but has that bit of guile to open up defenses.

You mention their talismatic records (Park and Rooney) and as much as this
is a tribute to both players, do you not think that there is an element of luck
or coincidence in these records happening? cos to some degree I do.

Im just playing devil's advocate here....

Could be right jazz but in park's case he is just one of those players who makes things happen and have rarely seen him play a bad game for united. He is not one of thse hot and cold wingers but is always lively and is a wonderful signing in my view.Christ he even scored against West ham at upton park- a rare victory for us over them certainly at their ground to show his worth.;)
