Ji-sung Park has edged out Wayne Rooney to be named Player of the Month for March.

Almost 16,000 supporters logged onto to have their say in the poll, with the South Korean garnering 38 per cent of the vote. Park is the seventh different player to pick up the website’s Player of the Month award this season. Incidentally, Park also won the March award on United's official sites in China, Japan and South Korea.

It’s an honour the 28-year-old richly deserves after a string of fine individual performances in a month where the team blew hot and cold.

At St James’ Park early in the month he was absolutely everywhere, while many agree he was the best United player on the pitch in the Reds' 4-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool.

But it was arguably his performance against Fulham in the FA Cup sixth round on 18 March that tipped the poll in his favour. Carlos Tevez bagged two goals that day, but Park almost stole the show with his industry and energy and chipped in with a fine solo goal of his own.

Voting for United's Player of the Year award opens on Wednesday 1 Apri

38% – Ji-sung Park
23% – Wayne Rooney
21% – Ryan Giggs
15% – Carlos Tevez
3% – John O'Shea{F9E570E6-407E-44BC-800F-4A3110258114}&newsid=6629788

I'm surprised to see Park win. Not because he doesn't deserve it but because he's an industrious fellow who's good work does not always get noticed.

Good to see it being based on performances rather than single match heroics (Tevez against Fulham) or reputation.
