We got another chance to see Lahm against Poland and i'm still impressed. I know he's signed a new contract at Bayern but i think he'd be available for the right money.

He's only 24 and although we dont need to replace Brown i think Lahm would offer enough of an improvement to buy him. He's also spent enough time at left back to cover for Evra.

It would also give Brown more chance to play because he'd get a game when any of the back four cant play.

I'd also take Podolski if we can him on the cheap because he's versatile. Its better to warm the euro champions bench than warm Bayerns bench.

Zenitka, what do you mean he's not stable? I think he's a top class player but I can't see him leaving Bayern unless he's

completely disappointed by Klinnsman. The only problem I'd have is whether to play him at right back where he prefers

or left back where he has the experience.Personally I think I'd want a specialist right back like Sergio Ramos as opposed

to a left back who prefers the right like Lahm.

The commentators kept mentioning that Lahm had been linked with United and, I think ITV, said he could be available for £10m.

He not plays well always...One game is good. 2nd is shameful...

I want that United had the player who plays well always...as Vida.

I'd take Ramos over Lahm every time but given the club relationships i seriously doubt we could get him without losing Ronaldo. Lahm may be 2nd choice but he's very good.

I like fact that Lahm has played left back when he pefers to play on the right. A lot of players cry when they get played out of position but he seems to have gotten on with it for the good of the club. I think that Lahm would give us a long service unlike some players who wanna leave for a payday.

I know fullbacks are normally dirt cheap like Evra but i think given his age 10mil is cheap enough. Thats pocket change compared to Dani Alves.

lahm came through as a left back. but since he's right footed, he is comfortable on the right. Lahm actually prefers playing on the left people. i saw it somewhere in an interview that he said he prefers the left side as he can cut in and shoot long distance goal. he did it during germany's world cup 2006 opening game.

I didnt know that. I've read he prefers the right but i've never heard him say it.

right left, regardless he for me would be a top draw signing, last night against poland he was their best player, and although im a big wes brown fan (local lad, reliable, gets stuck in etc) i think this lad lahm is ptentially the best full back since the likes of roberto carlos and cafu, he got the lot imo
and dwarfy i saw that on itv too, although i cannt see bayern letting him go for as cheap as 10m if thats true though it will be a smahsing signing
basically i'd love him at united and i think it's quite possible, he reminds me of irwin with the versatility :)

Lahm is top notch. He impresses me in every game I watch him in.
Very comfortable on the ball, great going forward, excellent at defending....
all around great player. He reminds me of a right footed version of Evra......
which would be an amazing signing for us. He is versatile as well, which means
he could rotate with Wes, Evra etc...
Id be delighted if we bought him.

The only knock on Lahm is his height and physical strength. I know backs dont normally head the ball, but if a player crosses from the opposite wing, I want to have a guy who can get a head on the ball.

he is only slighty smaller than Evra. just a couple of inches in it so i doubt it would be a major problem.

We tend to beef our players up too so i think he'd be fine in the strength department.

yes and plus in certain games, for example fulham the season before last we took a certain gar neville out of the side because fergie was worried about his lack of ability in the air, but there was a simple solution that day and there still is now, we have wes brown who is more than able to come in in these certain games, but generally lahm would be fine with the physical side of the game :)

Am I missing something here? He has just signed a new contract so that means he is staying at Bayern, do you think he would of signed a new contract if he wanted to leave. You can like him as much as you want but he is not available for a transfer. You are wrong to say that he would be available for the right money, Bayern are a very rich club so they have no need to sell their best players for money.

I dont agree, players often sign new contracts and end up leaving.

Wes Brown has just signed a new contract and Man Utd are a very rich club but if a club offered the right price Fergie would sell him. The same way he took the money for Stam even when he knew it would have a negative on the team.

Football is a business and Man Utd can offer Lahm more than Bayern can. We are the champions in the strongest league in the world, champions of europe and a much bigger club than Bayern. Given the choice Lahm might choose prestige over loyalty. Remember they didn't want to sell Hargreaves but we still got him.

Anyway this thread wasnt suggesting we are going to sign him but asking if the fans want to sign him.

How did you get the opinion that we can offer him more than they can, Bayern have a massive warchest of money that they have only just started spending. Have you seen the outrageous wages they are paying Luca Toni? They actually have more money to spend on players than we do. Philip Lahm had one year left on his contract, he was in the perfect position to leave if he wanted to. He chose to sign a new contract which means he wants to stay at Bayern. And even if he did make an outrageous u-turn and decided he wanted to leave two weeks after signing a new contract, Bayern would sooner sell to some-one else before us as they still resent us for the way we went after Hargreaves.

I haven't seen either clubs balance sheet so i cant comment on that, i am sure Bayern are very rich but thats not what i mean. Utd are a bigger club who offer a better chance of success in europe. They also compete in the best league and there is a lot more prestige to the club.

I'm just saying that Lahm may want to test himself rather than have it easy in a 2nd rate league.

Manchester United and Barcelona were very interested in signing him, if Lahm wanted to join us then all he had to do was tell Bayern he was leaving. He only had one year left on his contract so the transfer fee would of been small. But less than two weeks ago he took the decision to extend his contract till 2012, meaning that his intention is to stay at Bayern. Even if he did make a dramatic u-turn on his decision, his transfer value would now be far too much for us to sign him.
