Barcelona strike terms for Man Utd's Pique

Barcelona have struck personal terms with Manchester United defender Gerard Pique.
El Mundo Deportivo says Barca are willing to cough up £3.75 million for the defender, who will sign a four-year deal if United accept the offer. Terms over the four-year contract have already been struck.

The deal is expected to be rubberstamped by United immediately after the Champions League final next week.

Okay its not like we need funds but we do need to replace him and get a sub cb and he was perfect imo...For me his worth more than that and it just confirms the fact that we will go for a defender this transfer period...maybe we will buy a rb and get Brown as 3rd cb which is good or we could get a player who can play both rb and cb like brown

Last time i checked the only decent prospect sold was Rossi, and he has a buy-back clause...

Theres better youth defenders than Pique at United, Cathcart is much more solid than him

Milito is out for several months with injury and the rest, except Puyol are on the transfer list...

There hasn't been any confirmation about this all day so I'm sceptical.

Pique has wonderful potential and I want him to stay at United but I can fully understand if he is frustrated with his limited opportunities to play. I hope that Fergie can convince him to stay at United for at least one more season and, if he does, hopefully he'd get more pitch time.

Well, considering this is from tribalfootball there is more chance of this being a load of rubbish then it being actually true.

But I hope he doesn't leave. Hes a very good player and we should keep him.

But, he doesn't get enough first-team football and he has been treated pretty shoddily. He always seems to be the last man to get the call.

The English media is not full of it but in Spain they seem to be confident that Gerard Pique will sign for Barcelona.

The 20-year-old defender is believed to be frustrated with his limited first-team opportunitites as he plays second fiddle to Ferdinand, Vidic and even Brown. With rumours circulating that United want to sign Micah Richards and Jonny Evans could return from Sunderland, Pique could easily leave.

A Ł5m price tag has been quoted and Spanish paper El Mundo Deportivo reports that the parties have agreed this fee. Furthermore, the newspaper claims Pique is already in Barcelona and has passed a medical. He will be officially unveiled after Wednesday's Champions League final.

I don't know how much is true about these rumours but it has a certain irony to it: Barcelona buy a player who they nurtured then lost for a nominal fee... I do not want to lose Pique as he could have a great future but Jonny Evans looks the brighter prospect for me so it's such a huge loss, especially as the Vidic-Rio pair could have five more great years ahead of them.
