Giant-Killers Hull City Look To Topple More Big-Guns!

Notes
  • Injuries for United for the game are small and its only Paul Scholes (Knee) who
  • is a gaurenteed absentee. Hargreaves and Carrick are seemingly back to
  • fitness although Hargreaves (Tendonitis) is a doubt
  • Hull are in a similar condition with only one certain absentee in Fagan (Broken
  • Leg) who will not play at old Trafford
  • United remain un-beaten at home this season in all competitions
  • Wayne Rooney is 1 goal short of his 100th League goal
  • The Red Devils ahve scored in their last 32 league games

Previous Results (League)
At Old Trafford ('74/'75) - Manchester United 2-0 Hull City
At Boothferry Park ('74/'75) - Hull City 2-0 Manchester United

Key Players

Manchester United - Darren Fletcher is on top form for United this season scoring 3
times to date, all turning out to be important goals. After almost leaving the club
in the Summer, he's put his head down and showed the Old Trafford faithful how
valuable the squad players are. Knitting everything together in midfield along with
scoring the odd goal, what more do you need?

Hull City - Geovanni has been a revalation for the promoted outfit this season.
After Man City let him leave for Hull, he's bee in amazing form scoing goals left,
right and centre including a blockbuster at the Emirates to beat Arsenal in the
league recently. He's found himeslf on the score sheet 4 times this season
already.

Looks like Hull are being brought back down to earth. I'd like to see Carrick return to the starting line-up, and partner Fletcher in midfield. Baring in mind we have a trip to Celtic in mid-week, Giggs should be rested, I'd even make a case for VDS to have another game off. My line-up:

Kuszczack

Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra
Ronaldo, Fletcher, Carrick, Nani
Rooney, Berbatov

Should be a United victory, although we'll obviously have to nullify the threat of Geovanni in midfield, with Fletcher closing him down early. He's the play-maker in Hull's team. If we're winning comfortably, there's no reason why Rafael and Evans can't come on for half an hour or so whilst we rest players ahead of Celtic.

Hull have just been comprehensively beaten by Chelski and will be looking to bounce back to their exceptional start to the season. I did not expect Hull City to get a result v Chelski, a nice surprise if it had happened.

If we are not careful, and play to our obvious ability, it could be a draw.

Keano,
Berbatov is never in your line-up...... even after last night's game :D

:p...If you check the top og post #1..you'll see that I compiled that post BEFORE
the game had even started! :p...;)

Right now...hmm.......I'd like this line-up..:)

-----------------------------Van Der Sar-----------------------------

--Rafael--------Ferdinand------------Evans---------------Evra--
-
------------Ronaldo--------Carrick----------Giggs----------------
-
------------------------------Rooney--------------------------------

---------------------Tevez-----------------Berbatov---------------

;)....Bearing in mind that its Hull....Evans and Rafel deserve a run IMO...play all 4
attackers.....and Giggsy is more then able for a game of this stature surely...

BIG-MATCH FACTS

The season's surprise package, Hull City, were given a reality check by Chelsea on
Wednesday, crashing to a 0-3 defeat, after four straight victories, and dropped out
of the top four.

Now just three days later, Phil Brown's Play-Off winners face another of the title
contenders in defending champions Manchester United at Old Trafford, who are
pursuing their 400th Premier League victory - all under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Red Devils returned to winning ways midweek, after being held by Everton at
Goodison Park, beating West Ham at the Theatre of Dreams with two unanswered
Cristiano Ronaldo goals.

United are unbeaten at home; the Tigers undefeated away from home.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side, who are eight points off the pace with a game in hand, are
vying for a fourth successive home victory.

City are in danger of suffering successive defeats for the first time ever in top-flight
football, but cross the Pennines in search of a fifth straight league win on the road.

Hull's only victory at Old Trafford was 0-2 in the third round of the FA Cup on 12
January 1952, when they were in the lower reaches of the Second Division and United
went on that season to win the first of their post-war Football League titles.

Distance between the clubs: 103 miles (166 kilometres)

KEY PLAYER NOTES

MANCHESTER UNITED

Rio FERDINAND is the only remaining player to have been on the field for every minute
of every one of Manchester United's Premier League matches this season.

Wayne ROONEY, who's scored nine goals in his last nine games for club and country
and five in seven appearances for United, needs one more to total 100 club goals
(Everton and Manchester United).

If selected:-

Gary NEVILLE will be making his 550th appearance for Manchester United.

Cristiano RONALDO will be making his 250th appearance in United colours.

If on the field from the outset:-

John O'SHEA will be making his 150th English league start (Manchester United and
Bournemouth).

HULL CITY

Michael TURNER and Boaz MYHILL are the only remaining players to have been on the
field for every minute of every one of Hull's Premier League matches to date.

Nick BARMBY needs a hat-trick to reach 100 club career goals.

Dean WINDASS is a hat-trick shy of 200 goals in English and Scottish league football.

If selected:-

Wayne BROWN will be making his 50th appearance in a Hull shirt.

If on the field from the outset:-

Loan signing Paul McSHANE, once on Manchester United's books without making an
appearance, will be making his 100th career league start (Walsall, Brighton, West
Brom, Sunderland and Hull).

HEAD TO HEAD

Manchester United have won their last three meetings with Hull in league and cup.

The most recent league clash was 33 years ago in the old Second Division, when
United won 2-0 at Old Trafford on 15 February 1975. They subsequently registered
a 6-0 aggregate victory in the second round of the Littlewoods League Cup in
September/October 1987.

Hull last eclipsed United 2-0 in a home second tier encounter on 23 November 1974.

i'm very glad that we had the benefit of seeing hull play their first 10 games, especially against arsenal. generally, they've been great, and i think it could just as easily have been us getting beat by them had we played them when arsenal did. hopefully, that now means that there's no complacency within the side and if we play the football that we have done in the first half of the last two games, it should be a comfortable afternoon, and i would say 3-0. geovanni looks to be their main creative spark, and stifling him would go a long way to shutting out hull. as long as the defence do their job, no worries for me.

i think that we can't afford to rest too many players. one kid in every now and then in the league is ok, but playing sides with pig, rafael and jonny evans all together would be a mistake for me.

i would go with

brown........ferdinand..............vidic.................evra
ronaldo.......anderson.............giggs.............park

Not a bad line-up. Some rest for Berbatov will not be bad at all. And of course this will be a good chance for Tevez to spend some more time on the pitch. I prefer Tevez to start today and Berbatov to start vs Celtic.

should win by 2 or 3 clear goals, hull are on a roll and a great team but against us at OT there shouldn't be a problem at all

It is nice to see carrick back we have missed him and scholesy really badly.
Hopefully fergie will field a strong side , this game shouldnt be taken lightly just because chelsea humbled them

Wes Brown has not been included in the squad to face Hull after picking up an injury so it is thought that Gary Neville will start at right-back.
