Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Nemanja Vidic is a doubt for Saturday's trip to Bolton, but revealed that Wayne Rooney will return against Fulham in the Reds' following Premier League match.

Vidic suffered a back injury while on international duty with Serbia and, although he undertook some light running on Friday, Sir Alex will wait until Saturday before making a decision on his inclusion.

While there are doubts over Vidic's participation, the United manager revealed that Carlos Tevez will start at the Reebok Stadium, despite media reports that he would be rested due to tiredness.

“I don’t know where the story came from that he is tired," Sir Alex said. "I asked him about it and he didn’t know anything about it. I suggested to him that maybe he should be on the bench against Bolton. He just gave me a look.”

Club captain Gary Neville is also set to resume his comeback in the Reserves' trip to Sunderland next Thursday.

Bolton 1-0 Man Utd

Anelka's goal earned Megson his first win in six games in charge

Gary Megson claimed his first win in charge of Bolton with the unlikely scalp of
Manchester United, thanks to Nicolas Anelka's early strike.

Anelka slotted home Ivan Campo's free-kick 10 minutes in.

Meanwhile, an out-of-sorts United were left frustrated as Jussi Jaaskelainen kept
out Owen Hargreaves' free-kick and Carlos Tevez screwed wide in the box.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson had to watch from the stands after the break
following a touchline argument.

Although Manchester United's trip was less than 20 miles down the road from Old
Trafford, the gap between the two sides in the Premier League could not be
much bigger.

United, vying for the top spot with Arsenal, experienced their only previous
league defeat this season back in August - against Manchester City - whereas
that same month marked Bolton's only win in the Premier League - 3-0 against

Having already notched up four draws and a loss, Megson's side have clearly
become harder to beat but few would have expected Bolton to take an unlikely
lead less than 10 minutes in.

Megson reaped the rewards of Anelka's return from a recent hamstring injury
when the Frenchman took advantage of United defender Gerard Pique's mistake
to slot home.

Campo's cheeky chipped free-kick had set up the goal with Pique mis-timing his
leap and leaving Anelka unmarked with the ball in front of goal.

While Bolton looked lively and dangerous on the break, the visitors made a
lacklustre start - perhaps missing the touch of winger Cristiano Ronaldo, who
was rested after playing in two Euro 2008 qualifiers over the past week.

United's chances at the other end were few in the first half with Hargreaves
screwing a 20-yard effort wide, and Tevez just failing to get on the end of Rio
Ferdinand's long ball.

Their frustrations were deepened by ongoing battle between Bolton striker Kevin
Davies and United defender Patrice Evra - which resulted in angry United boss
Alex Ferguson being sent the stands after the break.

Davies was lucky to get away with just one booking after two heavy-handed late
challenges and a nasty clash of heads with the Frenchman but referee's decision
brought Ferguson to the touchline to express his disgust.

However the tactical substitution of Pique for Oliveira Anderson just before the
half hour mark seemed to reinvigorate Ferguson's side and moments later,
keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen did well to keep out Owen Hargreaves' dipping free
-kick with a flying dave.

United kept turning the screw and Carlos Tevez should have done better when
he sliced Evra's cross wide from just a yard out 70 minutes in.

Although the visitors continued to pile forward, Megson's men held on for a
famous win.

We deserved a draw out of this at least. Bolton slowed the game down and were in quickly to the challenges. Pique made the mistake for the goal. He will learn from this as he is still young and learning his trade. Tevez should have scored, Im not sure how he missed and I even started celebrating........
Bolton didnt create too much for us to worry about but I really think we missed the movement and pace of Rooney and Ronaldo up front.
All in all not a great day but its still early and its only 1 loss in 10 or so PL games, which is good going. Next week at home should be much more comfortable.
There are lots more twists and turns to come this season so nothing to worry about.

By all means lads, chip in :D

Dont just use the bleeding shoutbox all the time. :D

Sadly this was another example of Carricks magic act....(his disappearing act)

He did nothing for the whole game, and didn't see to his defensive duties so why play him in the first place when Anderson is far more cretive....

We were outplayed in the first half, physically beaten and had a job done on us..

Paddy Crerand says that "Ronaldo didn't play because he picked up a knock in training" so I believe that's why he wan't at the Reebok...

I think today proves more than anything how much we miss Ronaldo and Vidic when they are not playing, and Rooney also.....

this game was lost early in the midfield, it reminded me of last years lost at westham.I was hoping to see anderson start with harg, but im sure that wouldnt have helped all that much. tevez looked tired and saha appeared to be jogging as
usual. we are still in the hunt and we should be at good form after fergie chews on their minds for a bit!

Every now and then these idiots need a kick up the proverbials with a defeat that reminds them that they do not have the divine right to win, they have to work for it, and that they have to score goals.

I have a hate for Bolton now they try really hard and put in a gritty preformance against us and beat us but the week after they go out there and dont even try against a L'Pool side who actually played mid week!
