Poborský voted best solo strike

Karel Poborský's famous lob at EURO '96 has been voted the best individual goal in the latest Carlsberg Goal of the Day poll on euro2008.com.

The Czech Republic midfielder's strike in the quarter-final against Portugal at Villa Park gained 54 per cent of the vote from euro2008.com users in a poll conducted between 16 April and 4 May. Johan Cruyff's solo effort for the Netherlands against Belgium in the 1976 UEFA European Championship quarter-finals took 38 per cent, with Kim Vilfort's long-range goal for Denmark in the EURO '92 final triumph over Germany receiving eight per cent.

It was a fantastic goal. I remember that game well and the Czech's had a great
team and a great tournament. Pob was a good pro but Ive a strong feeling
that Fergie signed him on the back of THAT goal and his performances in that
tournament.

It was obvious that one of the best players of the second best team (1. Germany, 2. Czech Rep.) will change his club.
But Karel played really well throughout the season 95/96; he was key player of Slavia Prague. It was shame for "Karlo Poboro", that United were his first foreign club - he was unable to speak English, didn't like your constant monsoons...

Yeah, he jumped as high and as long as he could :D
Maybe it was cheap penalty, but better cheap than nothing. And Patrik was lucky to score goal, because Andreas Kopke nearly stopped that shot.

What did you say about that last German goal in overtime?
