Steve Stone had a long career in football, and had his fair share of yellows and reds. I listened to BBC Radio 5 Live last Saturday afternoon, he was the second man pundit on the commentary team.

There was a punch up on the field of play in the Championship Football League game they were covering.

He made the following comment: "Ah, this is what football is all about!"

The BBC commentator picked up on this and (politely) asked him "can we quote you on that?".

The commentary continued ............................................

Stone was condoning violence on the pitch and he got away with it as far as I know ...................................

Steve Claridge is another ex player that Radio 5 Live uses for none Premiership games and is totally useless, completely out of it and makes the most banal comments. I could do a better job!!

Well, we want the physicality in the game.

Commentators often pull a stupid phrase out. Wouldn't reallyt read into it TBH.

Your lucky you don't live in Ireland and suffer the commentating of one, Jimmy
McGee!....I'd say he's the cause for 95 % of all sucides in Ireland!

As for "condoning violence" I think it was just a comment that they were glad
there was a bit of spice in the game. I'm sure he doesn't condone propper
violence on the pitch...

Rather than start a new thread, I will continue in this one as its quite relevant.

I am watching Paul Merson on Sky Soccer Saturday waffling on about Coventry v Derby. I have to ask the question - Why is he there?

The answer to me is fairly obvious - old boys net.

He is a self confessed gambler, likes a drink or three and cannot afford the mortgage on his house due to his off screen problems. When he took on the job as manager of Walsall he didn't have a clue. He did not realise that the manager was also responsible for coaching players, so he didn't!! He admits to this by the way!

He is broke and, without Sky, would be earning zilch. He frequently fluffs his reports and, sometimes, sounds a bit garbled. And, he is crap!

My fav on Sky, Chris Kamara!!
