Sorry, but thats a bit rich saying Fergie is the only manager that cannot be punished.

Benitez continually criticises other teams, players, managers and referees but people make excuses for him saying ridiculous things like "It must be the language barrier" etc etc.

Former Premier League referee Graham Poll agrees that Sir Alex Ferguson receives lenient treatment from the Football Association.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez launched an astonishing attack on his Manchester United counterpart on Friday.

Benitez claimed Ferguson does not get punished sufficiently for his sometimes outspoken criticism of match officials.

Poll enjoyed a good relationship with Ferguson during his time as a referee but believes the Scot does get preferential treatment from FA disciplinary chiefs.

"Rafa Benitez has articulated what referees have been thinking for years - that Sir Alex Ferguson can say what he wants about them and the FA will allow him to get away with it," Poll told the Daily Mail.

"The authorities could point to Ferguson's two-match ban imposed earlier this season as proof that he is not out of reach of their disciplinary department, but that was for marching onto the field after the 4-3 win over Hull and for comments made directly to the referee, Mike Dean, who in reporting the misconduct forced the FA's hand."

I've just read this on Sky Sports.

Firstly, Poll says that it's hard to send off Terry. Then he says Fergie gets lenient treatment. And this guy was Englands top ref? :eek: :confused:

Fergie against the World right now, it seems ;) :p

My guess....

I believe having led the table for a while, especially having beaten us and Chelsea which were something they could not forsee even in their wildest dream, and having nicked it in the final moments in some games, Liverpool started to wonder/wander and gingerly began to dream big but are not too sure if it is realistic enough or achievable.

The suspense, after all these endless years and with the end of the season still months away, was too much for them to bear and soon anxieties and a little doubt started to creep in.... Can we hold the lead till the end of the season? What if...? Oh no!! But we know we can.... we think we can.... we should be able to do it.... WE MUST FFS!!!!....

All it takes was for somebody to come along to flip the switch for them to crack.

Fergie gleefully took the honours...

And the rest is history.
That's a pretty good theory versa. ;). Great post.

As for Benitez' behaviour, here's what the journalists on the Sunday Supplement think;
