Rangers have enquired about United full-back Danny Simpson - fuelling speculation of a part-exchange plan for £8m-rated Alan Hutton.

Ibrox boss Walter Smith is reported to have asked Sir Alex Ferguson about the 20-year-old Salford-born full-back after Tottenham made a bid for Hutton.

The 23-year-old Scottish international rejected the quadruple-your-money deal at White Hart Lane with many believing he knows United want him in the summer.

Should Hutton sign, Simpson's first-team chances would look bleak with Ferguson believing Gary Neville can play at the top for another three years - and Wes Brown also showing no signs of moving elsewhere just yet.

The two clubs could potentially set up a part-exchange in the summer if Simpson feels a move to Scotland would suit him, although there is likely to be some Premiership interest.

This is pretty tough if it comes true, maybe not this month but who knows at the end of the season. Question is simply, who would you rather have? Hutton or our own Simmo?

I don't know.:D

Have not seen Hutton in action although Fergie praised him to heaven. Thought he is a bit lanky for a right back, isn't it? Anybody seen him, analysed him or measured him?

As for Simmo, think he has tremendous potential and yes, speed down the flanks although defensively, unproven. Granted that we were already in pole position, still looked great last weekend, isn't it? And born and bred in Manchester.

Tough decision indeed....

Is this a joke? Neville is no where near as good as he was at the moment, let alone in 3 years. In 3 years Wes Brown will be too old as well! I reckon get Hutton, and maybe sell Brown in Summer or later on.
