BUCHAREST -- Romanian second division soccer club UT Arad sold a player in exchange for 15 kilograms of meat, local sport daily Pro Sport reported on Monday.

However, fourth division Regal Horia made a bad deal because defender Marius Cioara decided to end his footballing career and take off to Spain to find a job in agriculture or construction.

"We are upset because we lost twice -- firstly because we lost a good player and secondly because we lost our team's food for a whole week," a Regal Horia official was quoted as saying by the daily in its electronic edition.

There's a lot of odd transfers... in football and other sports.

For example:

Alex to Chelsea for 1 quid (obviously there's stuff behind it, nonetheless its an official transfer)

Chris Drapper (hockey) was traded for 1 dollar

Last year there was a baseball player that was traded for baseball bats.

Kris Draper was traded for a Canadian dollar. From Edmonton to Detroit. Now he has 4 Stanley Cups and who's laughing now?
Baseball announcers have also been traded as well.

Got that right. Its a shame Carly is no longer around to complain about how the Romanians have been mistreated and how the Russians would get at least a gallon of Vodka. :p

You are an idiot. Andrei Arshavin, one of the best Euro2008 players doesn't drink. And you are that dumb that can't even remember his name
There's no need to insult the man, he is entitled to his opinion just as you are.

I think he might have meant Pavlychenko (sp?) anyway.

Agreed with. Wholeheartedly. On both fronts. Not to mention, Arshavin had TWO good games and one AWFUL one in the Euros. That doesn't make you one of the best players in my opinion. Big deal, he was good against Sweden and against the dinos that constitute the Dutch back 4. Not to mention, who doesn't like a drink now and again.
