Klaas-Jan Huntelaar pulled closer to Cristiano Ronaldo at the top of the European Golden Boot standings with a hat-trick for Ajax.

The 24-year-old striker hit his 30th, 31st and 32nd league goals of the current campaign in Ajax's 4-1 drubbing of De Graafshap on Sunday, to close the gap on Man Utd star Ronaldo at the top of the standings.

The Portuguese winger grabbed his 27th Premier League strike of an extraordinary campaign as United held Middlesbrough 2-2 at the Riverside Stadium.

Ronaldo (54pts) remains on top because the Golden Boot competition organisers value English league goals at a higher rate than those scored in Holland, where Huntelaar's 32 have earned him 48 points.

But the Ajax striker is well clear at the top of the Dutch goalscoring charts and is on course to break Coen Dillen's Eredivisie scoring mark of 43 in a season, set while playing for PSV Eindhoven in 1956/57.

I'll say this much Huntelaar's goal-scoring record for Ajax is nothing short of Phenomenal. Wikipedia has it as 69 goals in 80 appearances HOWEVER if that wasn't amazing enough I don't think it's been updated with his weekend hat trick so make that possibly 72 goals in 81 appearances. Staggering, truly reminiscent of Ronaldo's 42 goals in 46 appearances for PSV. However before we get carried away let's remember Alfonso Alves had a staggering record of 45 goals in 39 games for SC Heerenveen and yet he's only just opened his Middlesbrough account, albeit with a wonderful brace against us. What I'm trying to say is that Hunterlaar is still an unproven quantity so we should wait and see. For what it's worth I'd say he's a chance of scooping the Golden Shoe but unlikely as Premiership goals are valued more highly.

tbh - i don't trust in brasilian goal machines... i think that brasilian must be an all around player. the last brasilian goal machine i remember was mario jardel... and we all knw his story - i think huntelaar would be a better option .. ronaldo and romario are a different story.. they have everything...

Well, in my opinion, I think Ronaldo could get a record better than Huntelaar in the Dutch league.

You've also got to remember that while Ronaldo plays on the right-wing, Huntelaar is a penalty-box player. He doesn't do much else.

Huntelaar might be somewhat of an unknown quantity, but so is any foreign player that has yet to play in the Premier League.

What I like about Huntelaar is his touch, awareness, decision-making, finishing, positional play and uncanny ability to conjure up goals out of nothing.

Now, it might take a while for a striker to adapt to a new league especially a very physical league like the prem and while Huntelaar would have to do some adapting, I fancy him to do very well in the premier league - he's a bit special, you see. : )

Ronaldo's is a bigger achevment as he plays in midfield not taking anythink away from klass but for me ronaldo derserves more credit
Agree with you there Faz.
there is a chance huntelaar could get the Golden Boot, which would be a shame
for Ronaldo. It would be great for one of our own to get that special accolade,
especially a winger. I reckon Ronaldo will win all the individual prizes this year.

Well thats not entirely true I think. Ronaldo has 37 goals and 7 assists,
3 of those assists coming in 1 game......
I dont know how many Huntelaar has. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Ronaldo does deserve more credit as he is a winger and it is unheard of a winger scoring so many goals.Klaas main objective is to score goals so im not suprised when i hear he has such a good record.Faz,you're banned!  You've been a naughty boy:p :D

And for the record

2 Fernando Torres Liverpool 2289 21 3 85 54

Hands up, who would like Torres to be a Manchester United.

I sure would. Look at his movement when he combines with Gerard or his ability to run at defences. It looks pretty damn good to me.

Before the summer I was raving about him to all my Liverpool-supporting friends and they were telling me he is over-rated and now they are like little school girls at a JT concert when they talk about him.....
