I cannot believe we paid £30m for this guy, watching him is very frustrating. He consistently makes the wrong decisions when he is in a goal scoring position. He does not know how to finish at all. I am worried that we are relying on him to play up front as the main striker, if we got one chance in a match I would not want it to fall to him. He is turning into an expensive version of Alan Smith, lots of effort and running but not much quality. The job of a striker is to score goals and Rooney is not doing the job, he spends most of his time running around like a headless chicken making tackles. Van Nistelrooy would of had at least two goals last night, why oh why did we sell Ruud for only £10m.

Many Wazzamaniacs here... So you are asking for 'troubles' for doing such a thread, mate. :D :D

Not to worry though cuz at the end of the day, we are still United. :)

I will tell you what I am talking about. Rooney was through on goal twice last night and made bad decisions on both occasions. With one of the chances all he had to do was slot it past the keeper but tried a riduculous back flick and ended up on his backside. He was through on another occasion and tried to chip Coupet when he should of taken it around him or passed, Ruud would have score both of those. There was also a chance for Rooney to make a simple pass to Tevez and he was through but he kicked it straight at the Lyon player. But the ball came back to him and he had another chance, this time Ronaldo was in acres of space in the centre but he kicked it out for a goal kick.

I like Rooney for his ability and hate-to-lose spirit but am no Wazzamaniac. There will be many after me, responding to your thread, probably vociferously. So brace for it, mate. Warned you already. ;)

you know what? me and yourself are gonna be the only 2 people on here saying this. I actually agree with you, he is extremely overrated. He is a good player but I've heard people say he's one of the best strikers in the world, what a joke.

I think Ronaldo is a far more able striker than Rooney. If only we had got Fernando Torres :(.

Oh and by the way we sold Van Nistelrooy because he had a fight with Ronaldo in training

[q]On 9 May 2006, Setanta Sports reported that van Nistelrooy's exclusion from the squad was due to a training-session fight between him and teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. Van Nistelrooy allegedly criticised Ronaldo's tendency to hold onto the ball instead of passing to his teammates, which sparked the fight, after which the Dutch international remarked, "Go running to your daddy." The article claimed that this was not a reference to Ronaldo's father (who had died earlier in the season), but to United's Portuguese assistant coach Carlos Queiroz[/q]

Andy Cole and Teddy Sheringham never got on very well, but Fergie did not sell either of them until they were past there best. There are no excuses, it was a bad error of judgement by Fergie to sell Ruud a world class goalscorer for only
£10m

I disagree with you Rooney's pass you refer to that went out for a goal kick was a brilliant cross if you ask any striker in the world he would love a cross like that if Becks had done it you would be raving bout it, Not sure how you can say he is over rated he hit 20 odd goals last season, he was being asked to play a dif role last night one he isnt used to he plays better as the second striker he has more assisits than Ronaldo so Ronny must be a shit over rated winger.
As for Rudd SAF sold him because he wasnt good for team morale he sulked when left out of Carling cup and Utd played boring football with him in the team.

How old was Ruud when we sold him? getting on a bit late 20s? anyway I heard Ronaldo didn't want to stay at the same club as him, would you rather have seen Ronaldo go?

So as long as Ruud's at Madrid, we won't see Ronaldo going there atleast :)

wazza is the best 28 million fergie has ever spent , the boy is superb and epitomises the work ethic to become a united player.
he was never a centre forward but used to play just behind in the gap.
fergies inability to buy and out and out striker (which will come back and haunt him) has meant wazza has had to lead the line on his own , which i do not think is his strength , behind a berbatov he would be unstoppable.
regarding ruud , this is not the first time fergies ego has come before the best intrests of the club, ruud , jap stam ,paul ince and many others departed prematurely , i do not like to criticise saf but he hsnt always got it right , just most of the time.
ruud has never been replaced , and is not easy to replace anyway.
only time will tell whether saf is right , if we win the treble no one can say anything , but after watching last night and many other matches this season ,i feel something is missing from the team stoping us from being great A CENTRE FORWARD.
if anyone questions rooneys class , just go back and see some f the goals he has scored for united , that should shut you up for a bit.
one more thing with wazza the boy always performs in the big matches and doesnt hide like ronny tends to

Giggs is 34, Scholes is 33, G.Neville is 33, Van Der Sar is 37 yet they are still at the club so what has age got to do with it. Ruud guarenteed us 25 goals a season. The reason we won nothing with Ruud is because a couple of years ago we were playing O'shea, Smith and fletcher as our first choice midfielders and had dross like fortune and djemba in the squad. It was fergies terrible purchases, not the fault of Ruud.

hm overrated?Maybe he is overrared if we name him"the best striker".He does actually misses many chances, but he replace his weakness in goal scoring with his non stop fighting spirit. He gets so many balls that no one in club can.He gets many air duels with big defenders despite the fact, that he's small.Tevez and Ronaldo are better /chance goal percentage player even the fact that Rooney scores 20 goals a season. And i believe he's not overrared.

ruud is an outstanding player..and rooney too..I hope we bring the Hunter soon because he is an aerial threat ..yesterday Tevez played a good match but when he was in the midfield he didn't win a head contrast.. we need a striker like Adeba for Arsenal. Fergie please bring huntelaaaar and not benzema who is strong but a player similar to rooney tevez and saha!

He's one of the BEST IN THE WORLD would not trade Rooney for ANYONE!!!! it is absolutely NO coincidence that any game we've lost he wasnt playing!

He's a genius!

He tends to get held back by injuries just when he hits a bit of form!

He'll still get us 20 goals plus this season as well as many many assists (more thn any striker in europe id bet!)

If I was a moderator I'd ban you for such blasphomy!

take it easy there - a guy has a right on his opinion.... we discussed it at the shoutbox moments ago, so he doesn't mean he's overrated per se... he just thinks he's not a goal poacher

Nah, I'm not as aggresive as the way versa described me! Or am I....??

That goal was meant to sum up both the scoring & creating side of Wayne Rooney. The goal showcased every other likeable attribute the sensational teenage starlet possessed. High workrate, sheer determination, powerful physique, great ability, superb technique, eagle-eyed vision, electrifying pace, clinical finishing and sharp acceleration. When all channelled together, that beauty was born. I personally couldn't have asked for anything more from any player.
You will, however, notice that the clip did include a certain Rutgerus and as such is aged. That's my whole point, the boy did become world-class at the time. A similar thing applied to Ronaldinho Gaucho. More comforting, however, is that being world class is actually based on class rather than form, afterall form is temporary while class is permanent.
Needless to say, it pains me when I see Wazza struggling for form like he has done this season BUT deep down, clips like these reassure me that the boy will come good, afterall he is ONLY 22. Normally, a football player peaks @ between the age of 25-27. And yes, he's the top 5 strikers in the world currently. ;)
