WAYNE Rooney has been ruled out for four weeks after suffering an ankle injury in training.

The United striker left Carrington on crutches and will miss Sunday's Barclays Premier League clash with Blackburn and most likely their remaining two group matches in the Champions League.

He will also be unavailable for England's friendly with Austria next week and the Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia at Wembley on November 21.

England coach Steve McClaren had only just named Rooney in his squad and greeted the news with understandable disappointment.

“It is hugely disappointing for us and him,†he said.

“Given the form he has been in and the contribution he has made to England over the last two games means it is a blow.

“But we have to deal with it, like we have dealt with situations like these before.

“It is an opportunity for someone else to come and do a job.â€

Rooney has already been out injured this season when he broke his foot in the first game of the season against Reading.

He probably not have played against Roma and Sporting so i think that he will miss Blackburn, Bolton, Fulham and probably Derby Bold teams are home games, We can cope in those matches! Should be back hopefully for the Liverpool game on 15th Decemeber "Fingers crossed"

It will give Saha his chance at long as he stays fit! Saha needs to be wrapped in bubble wrap for 4 weeks now!

We ccan cope lads not the end of the world!!!

We have the squad!

This is a massive blow considering the form Rooney was in. Thankfully the International break will mean he won't miss too many United games. We've already qualified for the Champs League knock out stages so it's really just the Premiership matches against Rovers, Bolton and Fulham that matter.

There's an outside chance he'll be fit for the game against Derby but at least he will definitely be fit for the trip to Anfield.

i knew this would bloody happen, he's been playin too much recently, he aint super man. Saha and tevez looks a cert then, unless saha is to remain a super sub in which case 451 could be in operation, lord all mighty, why god why,

c'mon the Dong, now is the time to raise your game and show the world what ur capable of

People have been dying to see the Saha, Tevez partnership. As long as Saha can stay fit we should be fine.

Rooney claims October player of the month award....

Wayne Rooney has been named Premier League Player of the Month for October, while Mark Hughes has won the manager's award.

Manchester United striker Rooney was in superb form throughout last month, scoring four goal in three matches.

He found the target against Middlesbrough and Wigan and netted a brace against Aston Villa, while his sparkling play helped United score four goals in each match.

"It is a great honour but I wouldn't have been able to pick it up without my team-mates so I'd like to thank my team-mates," Rooney, who also scored twice in the UEFA Champions League, told Sky Sports News.

"It's been a good month. We've won a lot of games and I've scored a few goals so it's been a good month both for the club and personally.

"Hopefully I can pick a few more of these awards up towards the end of the season and that will help us to win trophies."

Hughes takes the manager's prize for the first time after leading Blackburn to three consecutive victories against Birmingham, Reading and Tottenham.

He becomes the first Rovers boss to win the award since Brian Kidd in 1998.

Rovers have only been beaten once in the league this season and are currently sixth in the table.

Come on lads (and ladies) its not all bad, Saha is a quality player and if he can stay fit for four weeks who knows this may be a blessing it gives Rooney some competition for his place if Saha and Tevez both Perform, and just an after thought we do have the reserve players playing well, someone like Frazier Campbell can be on the bench incase of an injury hes playing well for the reserves, something like this may be his chance in the first team all be it for only a month.

frazier campbell is playin at hull, dong is our only reserve worth counting, fabian bradey there but i dunno much about him.

Dong has scored 3 in his last 2 games, he aint hopeless, part of me would kinda like to see the big Chinaman muck in in the premiership.

Saha is too injury prone to be put in for a month and its a bit much for us to expect him to be fine just because he's played an hour in the past while, knees are apparently real bastards as far as injuries go for footballers, save him, his knee and united a lot of bother and keep him as a super sub, he can do that job brilliantly - how many times has saha's sub appearance made a positive impact

Why Rooney? :( Poor guy can never catch a break. Every time he finds his goal-scoring form, he gets injured. I'm more disapointed for England then for United. We can cope without him for a few weeks. Saha can step up to the job when needed. England only have Owen left and Crouch. :(

this is a major blow! :(
sad very sad! just when rooney was back to his superb form he was hit with an injury! hopefully this injury will make him want to come back wanting more and more goals.
as for the rovers match i think fergie will play 442 with vds, evra - rio - vida - brown, cr7 - hargo - carrick - nani, giggs - tevez

hunger strikes yes indeedie

i like it, tevez to hold the front, giggs to hit the lines and hold up the play, wingers pinning back the full backs, hargo to boss the midfield with carrick spraying the passes, saha and anderson the super subs, it might just work, only god can save them now
