Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is set to be sidelined for two months after fracturing a bone in his left foot.
The United ace picked up the injury in Sunday's 0-0 draw with Reading, but it was initially hoped the damage was not too serious.
Rooney sustained the knock when Michael Duberry landed on his foot as the Reading centre-back was attempting to block a shot.
The 21-year-old was forced to come off at half-time in the match and scans have revealed a hairline fracture in the bone.
This is the third time Rooney has injured a bone in his foot after sustaining similar injuries during the 2004 European Championship and in the game against Chelsea at the end of the 2005/06 season.
this is proper sad....thank god we got tevez though
