Sir Alex Ferguson believes Wayne Rooney will be ready to play in Manchester United's Champions League tie away to Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday.

The England forward was not even on the bench for the 1 - 0 win at Everton after his recovery from a broken foot.

But Ferguson said "He will be fit for Wednesday, we have taken medical advice and he only started training on Monday. He is a bit short of fitness."

guys i say start him if hes 100%, this notion that we'll be up on lisbon then put
him in, isnt really the way this season has started ,we need goals, this one goal
a game is not good enough. we need rooney to kick some ass and get the other
forwards more confident. god i hope we can see the days of 2-0 in first half and winning by 3 or 4 .
