Saha: Faith in Squad

Louis Saha believes Manchester United's squad strength will help them through the remainder of the tough festive period.

Whilst the other teams, including Chelsea and Arsenal, have finally started to falter, United are still flying high.

Even with Carlos Tevez and Patrice Evra on the bench, and Edwin van der Sar and Owen Hargreaves out injured, United still have plenty of top quality players to choose from and proved it as they eased past Sunderland with a 4-0 win on Boxing Day, with Saha scoring his first two Premier League goals since September at the Stadium of Light to fire United back to the top of the table.

Amazing

"The squad we have is amazing," said Saha.

"It is strong in every position. A few players did not even travel on Wednesday and we still have Paul Scholes and Gary Neville to come back.

"We are all aware this is a difficult period. Any team who has not got the right squad will struggle during that time because fitness-wise, it is very hard.

"Mentally, you have to be very strong to get through it. That is why the manager has been very clever."

Difficult

United will look to maintain their unbeaten run in December when they take on West Ham at Upton Park on Saturday.

The Hammers have proved tough opponents for the Red Devils in recent years, claiming the double over United last year despite their poor campaign.

Whilst the Hammers are bound to be tough opponents, Saha is confident their recent rich vein of form will help them going into the match.

"Every game in the Premier League is difficult but West Ham especially so," he said.

"It has been very hard for us on a couple of occasions down there. But we have every reason to be confident after the results we have had and that is what we have to do on Saturday."

Being able to dispose of Sunderland 4-0 while restin key players and with Scholes and Gazza still injured shows just how strong our squad is...

All the talk is about Arsenal and their kids and people don't give us the credit we deserve.

However I think the cracks are beginning to show.

Arsenal draw with Pompey in a deserved draw for both teams.

Liverpool get a goal in the 90th minute after a goal mouth scramble to beat Derby who are at the bottom of the league......

Chelsea draw with Aston Villa and Villa can perhaps feel themselves hard done by....

We are going along nicely, 5 wins in a row, and are expecting Scholes back in January, Park is back and Ronaldo is playing like he did last season....

Oh how the tides have changed and just everything is right in the world of football again, the African Cup of Nations is the sprinkles on top........:)

Unless Ronaldo gets injured for a long time I can't see any reason why we can't win the league. Our squad is a sgood as I can remember.

Chelsea have a lot of catching up to do. They have no Terry, no Lampard, no Drogba, so no chance. However, if they were all fit I think it would be close between us and them.

Arsenal have looked quite ordinary in their last few games, particularly away from home. I can see them dropping more points than us the rest of the season and we play them in Old Trafford, which is always an advantage.

You here the same crap at the start of every season, this could be Liverpool's year. They have only 2 players in Gerrard and Torres that would get near the top 3. They would be lucky to finish fourth tbh. Too many average players. Have to play top 3 away also and won't win them games. Didn't win 1 home game.

United, however are on top form. They have the best player in the world in my opinion. A winger to be scoring that many goals is incredible really. I heard an amazing stat that he hasn't set up one goal this season and I think he was one of the top in PL last season. Doesn't matter top of the goals charts and he finally knows how to take a free.

Our defence has been fantastic, particularly Rio. The most pleasing part is many said Scholes was the best player in the league last season and he has to come back. However, he may find it hard with Anderson's form. In that Liverpool game I felt it was him more than Hargreeves breaking up the play and keeping Gerrard quiet. What a revelation he has been and he is only 19.

There is no reason why we can't go for the treble this season. I feel our squad is as good as any in Europe.

Great post Scott. Says it all really.
Regarding Ronaldo, he actually has 2 assists to his name this season. 1 against Derby and 1 in Europe I think. He usually gets way more, but I guess we cant complain since he has 17 goals already this season. Im sure the assists will start to flow soon. For all info on goals/assists check this thread: http://www.manutdtalk.com/forums/man-utd-chat/3447-manchester-united-goal-scorers-07-08-a.html
ye your rite he has 2 assists just seen them. It would be interesting to see if he could be top scorer by the end of the season. It is a big ask but Drogba's injured and going to the African's Nations. McCarthy 2nd last year is not on form.

I feel his biggest threat is Torres, Adebayor and maybe even Rooney if he stays fit. It would be some acheivment for a winger, I can't remember it ever been done.
