No, but I've been to Japan before.

And you have been in Denmark too? No doubt about that Japan is a cooler country, but I would much rather live in Denmark no matter what, the only bad thing is that it's an expensive country - everything is cheaper in Germany, Italy, etc.

I want to go to Denmark, but alas I haven't.

Japan claims East Asian Football Championship, defeating South Korea 2-1 in Jamsil Olympic Stadium, on the back of a brace from Cerezo Osaka's Yoichiro Kakitani.

I knew it would be a tough game, as away games in Korea always are. As expected the match official (Same ref that officiated the China game and gave them two pens which tied the game) was reminiscent of Byron Moreno. But Cerezo's golden boy Kakitani came through for Japan with a goal in the first half, and a second in extra time.

Kakitani outruns 3 defenders to snag a goal.

Korea's Il-Suk sinks an artful shot from outside the box, to level.

Kakitani needles through a shot in extra time.
Goal came off a loose ball, resulting from Haraguchi's shot, blocked by GK.

Great enthusiasm for your national side. . . Being English of course any similar enthusiasm has long since given way to cynicism and apathy.

Well, I'm getting pretty cynical about our defense. In the last 7 matches, we conceded 19 goals. We might have the best attack in Asia, but every time we give away goals, and it comes from our CBs and SBs messing up and making silly mistakes. We should sack Yoshida and Komano, bring back Tulio already. I think our manager has too little respect for the J-League, frequently snubbing good players who play in Japan, while giving chance after chance to Euro league players even when they consistently underperform. Uchida and Okazaki had just played Bundesliga matches like 3 days ago, we could have, and should have skipped them and played J-Leaguers.

Between Honda, Kagawa, Endo, Okazaki, the emergent Kakitani, we already have a good offense. Our problem is our DM and CBs. We know Endo's a midfield playmaker, 70A/30D. So why we continue to partner him with a 50A/50D Hasebe I will never understand. He needs a DM behind him to cover the CBs. And by god, Yoshida should be pulled. How many times does he have to misclear a ball for Zaccheroni to get the point. Swap Yoshida out for Marcus Tulio Tanaka, and that's a solid 25% less we'd be conceding.

Japan 3-0 Guatemala

Guatemala opened with a defensive game, ceding possession and relying on counters. Japan dominated the first half in terms of possession and chances, but failed to score. New JNT addition FW Yuya Osako (Kashima Antlers) rushed his shots and wasted some opportunities. Defensively, we were great. Pressed from the top and won the ball in the middle of the pitch, switched to offense fast. Early in the first half, much of the offense was created from the wings, near the end of the first half, it was a lot of Kagsball.

At the start of the 2nd half, goalless Osako was swapped out for Yoichiro Kakitani (Cerezo Osaka) who led the EAFF cup in goals. Hiroshi Kiyotake (Nuremburg) was also swapped out for Keisuke Honda (CSKA). On paper, Kagawa shifted to the left of the 4231, and Honda took the hole. In reality, Yuto Nagatomo (Inter) moved into the left, Honda took the hole, and Kagawa roamed fairly freely.

51′ Goal Keisuke Honda, Assist Yuto Nagatomo

First goal of the game came from Nagatomo's cross into the box, which Honda drilled into the bottom right corner with his head.

62′ Shinji Okazaki (Mainz) subbed out for Masato Kudo (Kashiwa Reysol) who slotted straight into Okazaki's RWF position.

69′ Goal Masato Kudo, Assist Shinji Kagawa

Zaccheroni's faith paid off, as Kudo was there to score on Kagawa's pass through the box following some quick combination football.

75′ Shinji Kagawa came off for Yasuyuki Konno (Gamba Osaka)
76′ Goal Yasuhito Endo (Gamba Osaka)
80′ Yasuhito Endō came off for Toshihiro Aoyama (Sanfrecce Hiroshima)

Although Kagawa did have a pass or two intercepted prior to the sub, it was more of a tactical experiment on Zaccheroni's part. The team shifted to a 343, which Zaccheroni has tested from time to time, almost always to horribly negative effect.

Honda --- Kakitani --- Kudo
Nagatomo ---- Aoyama ---- Hasebe ---- Sakai
Konno ---- Yoshida ---- Morishige
As somewhat expected, the balance of the team broke. The front row didn't press as much, and we won less balls. More passes were intercepted, and there was at least one goal scare when they nearly got behind our back three. Honda ended up shifting behind Kakitani anyway. But we held without conceding, to win 3-0.
