Stoke City's on-loan defender Ryan Shawcross is set to make a permanent move from Manchester United.
Chairman Peter Coates says the deal for the 20-year-old could be completed during the January transfer window.
"I don't want to go into the details of the deal just yet. They [Man Utd] have got some safeguards," Coates told BBC Radio Stoke.
"All being well the deal will be completed and both parties will feel they have done ok."
