Sky Sports News sources understand that Newcastle have agreed a fee with Bolton for Kevin Nolan.

Magpies boss Joe Kinnear has spent the majority of the January transfer window frantically searching for fresh faces, and may have found one.

The St James' Park coach has seen his squad decimated by injuries this term, with Michael Owen and Joey Barton joining the ever-growing casualty list on Wednesday.

Nolan, though, would provide experienced cover in the middle of the park, helping to soften the Barton blow.

The 26-year-old has spent his entire career to date at Bolton, breaking into the Trotters' first team fold a decade ago.

He has earned international honours with England's U21s in the past, while he has often been mentioned in connection with a step up into the senior squad.

Newcastle and Bolton have yet to confirm that an agreement has been reached for the combative midfielder, but Sky Sports News sources claim a deal is imminent.

Lol for a second I thought you were going to tell us United have bid for Nolan! Seems like a strange move to me for Nolan, Bolton seem to be a team steadily on the rise, where Newcastle are steadily going downhill.

Maybe he thinks playing at a more well supported team will boost his England chances.

I've no idea why Nolan would want to move to Newcastle but the BBC are reporting it's a done deal.

Newcastle really are a joke. Given has reportedly handed in a transfer request and N'Zogbia has refused to play for Newcastle as long as Kinnear is manager, after he mis-pronounced his name several times in a post-match interview.

I'm a bit surprised as well that he went to Newcastle tbh, as Bolton are in a better position.

But, he maybe feels like he needs a change and Newcastle must have been the only team bidding for him.

I would wish him luck, but it is Newcastle he's going to so, perhaps not! :p
