With so much talk about all these foreign buys and possible 5+6 rule, how would you feel about Fergie buying only English players this summer?

Personally i'd love any of the following at right back;

Glen Johnson (underrated)
Ryan Taylor (also underrated)
Micah Richards

As for centre-back cover, there would be the likes of these to choose from;

Steven Taylor
Micheal Dawson
Curtis Davies
Mark Beevers
Joleon Lescott
Anton Ferdinand

Same goes for midfield cover and even strikers if you look hard enough;

Ashley Young
Gabriel Agbonlahor
Aaron Lennon
Dean Ashton
Micheal Owen (release clause)
Jermaine Defoe

Before people flame in here about them being unproven etc, stranger things have happened with great success (Dwight Yorke?!?)

I think the best example of an unproven player making it at United would be Ole Gunnar Solskjær - I'd certainly never heard of him before!

Back on topic if this ruling comes in which I really hope it does it will ruin Liverpool and Arsenal's teams as they play less than 4 between them on average - As for United they would be ok as they have a fair few english players but looking at the list you have provided Nox I think most of them except for maybe Mark Beevers would be fine stepping straight into the United team.

Micah Richards ... yes gladly but the likes of Glen johnson no thank you, he's under rated for a reason imo he's dreadful in possesion lol, about 50 times worse than wes and he gets stick because he cant keep the ball well enough, as for the michael owen, he cant battle off a sore throat to play for england these days not for me either, Lennons been a joke the last year, however i do agree that Lescott and Curtis Davies are good enough but i cannot see them being bought as they would naturally want first team football

Micah Richards absolutely. Jolean Lescott, Curtis Davies and Agbonlahor I would be happy with as well, though not as happy as if we got Richards.

But this ruling won't come in so we don't have to worry!

It's an interestin topic because of the 6+5 rule that might come in eventually,
so Im sure it will come into Fergie's thinking.

The thing with most of the players you mentioned is that most of them
need/want 1st team football so I cant see most of them coming for that
reason alone. I like the idea of mark Beevers though. He is young and has
great quality. Richards and Young would be the other 2 I'd have an interest in.
We are United and should be looking to buy the best players and not looking
for back ups.

Which is why they will make it for 'home grown' players.....instead.
It's just a way of getting around it.....
but these home-grown players can be foreign, though they need to rack up
over 3 years training at a teams academy for them to be allowed to play.

Basically it will mean that the top teams wont be able to go out and buy the
new flavour of the month for a ridiculous amount of money.

For the record I don't think Glen Johnson plays well for big teams. He's one of those players who imporves when playing for a smaller club.

Don't you remember the way he played for Chelsea? He was getting skinned by Birmingham players.

He's good but not destined for a truly big club.

My favourite purchases would be

• Micah Richads
• Joleon Lescott
• Ashley Young

Lescott looks really interesting to me.

He could be cover for Evra AND for the centre of defene.
Micah Richards is a beast and could play right back or centre back and Ashley Young would really beef up the attack.

As some have mentioned, if Ronaldo were to leave he would somewhat soften the blow.
