Should Standing Areas Be Introduced To Football Grounds Again ?

There
has been
a lot of talk
in the media
concerning the
possibility of safely
designed standing
areas being slowly
reintroduced to grounds.
Is the decrease in cost and
the better atmosphere worth
the risk of fans safety. This topic
is always going to be a controversial
issue were everyone is going to have
many opinions, post your own views please ?

Yes we should be allowed to stand. I used to go to about twenty
games a season and whenever someone like Ronaldo got the ball
everybody would stand up in anticipation of him doing something
special. I enjoyed the atmosphere and standing up was almost
second nature. It really is pathetic these days hearing of people
being told to sit down by stewards and it ruins the day. I think
if one stand was all standing it would be ok. Plus they would fit
more people in surely? More people = more gate revenue no?

P.S
What's
that silly
pyramid all
about? :p  :p

Edit: I added a poll :)

I'm 6'3 and i always get short people standing behind me at gigs or w/e btiching at me cos they can't see whats going on.
Standing areas are great! I play Gaelic Football in Ireland and the main satdium,
Croke Park, has an all standing section will is just incredible when Dublin play
there. It really adds to the stmosphere. This way, people have the choice and
others won't be complaining about someone infront of them. It's a definite yes for
me!:D

BTW.....same as -Zuco-.

Whats
with the crazy,
weird pyrimid Carly?
Some sort of signature
to make your posts stand
out? Nice touch, but surely its
to awkward to do each time you
post. Oh, just thought I'd mention that
mine is probably the worst I've ever seen.......

Edit: Actually, it didn't even nearly work!

I closed the poll... :p

No point as it excludes people who do not go to matches.

We have a poll running for the Prem/Champs League anyway ...

Be nice to see these results first ... :)

Keano ...

To make a pyramid you need to
your post, lol.....

This has to be re-introduced to reconnect the fans to football.
In the last few years a lot of fans have become disillusioned
with football and the way it is governed and run.
This would be a big step in reconnecting the clubs to their fans.

The atmosphere's have suffered greatly since the terraces
were taken out. A huge aspect of football is the fans and their
voices. I wish Old Trafford was a hot cauldron with a hugely
vocal and intimidating crowd. Having standing areas re-intoduced
will have all the hardcore and loud fans together getting the
chants and songs going. This can only inspire the rest of the
ground to follow suit in supporting the team.

And for the players on the pitch to hear that would only spurn
them on to even greater things. We have THE best stadium in
the Prem. Its about time we used the damn thing properly.
Standing areas are the way forward and they can only be good
for football in this country. We see the use of standing areas working
fantastically in other European countries so why not in England?

There speaks the voice of sense. :D
And for those who say " I'm tall and people behind me can't see etc"....simple..move a little bit so they can do so.

.
I don't know why the standing was stopped ...

We still have the standing in Steaua Bucuresti Stadium and there is no problems.

Steaua has maybe half the crowd that United has but with everyone standing I
tell you I love it so much to go there the atmosphere is great and the singing so
loud it makes it a great day !

Tickets for Steaua are only £3 too, lmao ...

But that's another issue ... ;)

Standing areas in UK football stadiums were made illegal on the recommendation of the 1990 Taylor Report into the Hillsborough disaster, a tragedy that happened in 1989, when a total of 96 people were killed, or died from injuries, caused by crushing at Hillsborough football stadium in Sheffield.

And for anyone interested, try joining Stand Up Sit Down .

A bit more. But if you google the Taylor Report you can get the whole thing.

The Government's key aim must be to ensure that spectators attending matches do so in the safest environment possible. Following a number of disasters at football grounds over the years in the UK, many involving fatalities, changes were brought in to ensure such tragic events never reoccurred. Part of these changes included the introduction of all-seater stadia for the top two divisions. In turn, the all-seater policy has helped stadiums in this country to become some of the safest, best attended and most modern stadia in the world.

And to "The great dane", Someone spits in my face i'd take their head off their shoulders.

Disgusting, filthy and sure to get the reaction it deserves.
.
Safe standing would be good to bring into football in my opinion, but unfortunatly
I cannot see it happening. More and more football is becoming middle-class and clubs don't want to have to deal with any problems they can avoid.

I was at a last month and thought to myself how come these people can stand, jump, drink start crazy mosh pits or whatever they do, but we cannot stand at football? It's crazy and sometimes quite annoying
I
will
read
about
this now.
In Steaua's
Stadium they
have these little
barrier all the way
down the steps from
the back of the stands
to the front - so the most
people behind you is 3, then
a barrier, then 4 more people
deep and another barrier etc
etc (hope this makes sense
 ) This is good
and no one is pushed
around - only a little
bit - but for some
one as small as
me it makes
it safe and I
am happy
to go
there.

Something like that sounds good to me, it would keep the fans happy and would still be safe. Surely if it were standing the club would be able to get more people in and make more money.
Yes! The front third of the Stretford End should be standing, bring back the good old days!!

Good call. I think if anywhere, the standing area would have to be in the Stretford End. That is where i would say 99% of people would want it.

However the family stand is in the Stretford End don't forget, just above the tunnel and around that side. This would probably have to be relocated if the standing area was to happen there.
