Northampton Town have signed young Manchester United goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler on loan until the January transfer window.

The 19-year-old began his career with FC Cologne – his home-town club – in Germany, before joining the Reds in the summer of 2005.

Good in one-on-one situations and an excellent shot-stopper, Ron-Robert played 18 times for United's Academy side in his first season in England.

Regarded by many at the time of signing as one of Europe's most promising young goalkeepers, he quickly proved the hype was warranted and began progressing through the ranks at Old Trafford.

Although yet to make a first-team appearance at United, Zieler played 10 times for the Reserves in 2007/08 before travelling to the Czech Republic in the summer to take part in the UEFA U19 European Championships. There, he started every game for the national side, playing a key role in Germany's tournament victory.

Not a surprise. With TK, Foster and Amos getting games for the reserves Zieler would have struggled to get many starts this season. Sending him out on loan makes sense.

Yeah...seen him a few times on the reserves. Not a bad keeper. Obviously good
potential if he can cut it with the reserves, but as Dwarf said, he's got oso many
obstacles infront of him...
