Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed a full-strength, 23-man squad that will travel
to Japan for the FIFA Club World Cup next week.

The Reds depart for Tokyo on Sunday, the day after the Premier League clash
with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

United boss Sir Alex had hinted that he might leave some players behind to cope
with the Stoke City fixture on Boxing Day, just three days after the Reds return
from the Japanese capital. But the Reds manager's squad selection is a statement
of intent - United want to win this competition and take world football's crown to
go with the European title.

United enter the competition at the semi-final stage in Yokohama on Thursday 18
December (KO 10:30 CET) against one of Adelaide United (Australia), Waitakere
United (New Zealand), or Gamba Osaka (Japan).

In the other half of the draw, Egyptian giants Al-Ahly fight it out with Mexicans
Pachuca for the right to play LDU Quito of Ecuador in the other semi-final. The final
is on Wednesday 21 December (10:30pm CET) at the Yokahama Stadium.

Travelling squad:

Goalkeepers: Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Foster

Defenders: Neville, Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic, O'Shea, Evans, Rafael

Midfielders: Ronaldo, Anderson, Giggs, Park, Carrick, Nani, Scholes, Fletcher, Gibson

Strikers: Berbatov, Rooney, Tevez, Welbeck.
Very surprised VDS and Neville are going along with Rooney and Ronaldo...no
surprise to see Scholsey go and Giggsy stay behind...

I'm guessing Fabio still hasn't recovered,
sad to see no Hargreaves, I'm starting to
doubt he'll ever be 100% again.
Giggs was man of the match back in '99 so
I guess he has little business returning,
still, [sorry to sound optimistic] it would be
another medal.

No, Fabio hasn't recovered yet.

Hargreaves is out for the rest of the season.

Giggs IS in the squad.

I'm a little surprised Manucho and Possebon aren't in the squad but Welbeck deserves it and Gibson has obviously been preferred to Possebon.

I stand corrected.

Pity about Rodrigo though.

I think thats why PeeJay said how Giggs wasn't there because he read Keano's comment :p

Very strong squad, not surprised really, be interesting to see who if anyone is rested, hopefully it'll give a chance for Welbeck, Evans and Gibson to show what they can do at a big tournament.

Then again, what is so surprising about "VDS and Neville going along with Rooney and Ronaldo"? Or about Scholesy and Giggsy too? ;)

Manucho is fifth in the pecking order so....

I think he may be going out on loan soon.
Why not taking him to Japan to give him a proper tryout.

And 5th choice and born 1983. Im sorry but he's turning 26 before Campbell returns from exile in enemy land. Then he'll be 6th....why not selling him and give one of the youth the 6th striker shirt?

I don't know really. Think all of us, Fergie included, were too taken in by his performance in the African Nations Cup. Now we, Fergie included, don't really know what to do with him? :D :(

Looks a strong squad but which players ultimately play out there is a different issue. bit surprised that Manucho isn't on the list I thought SAF would pick him in place of Berbatov. Rooney should play most of the time, ang I think Gazza will get a game at least.

Thats what I mean...his ANC was what we had hoped for and we were all looking forward to see him in United...now he's like Dong II.
He must have been poor or maybe the other 4 strikers have been more impressive then Manucho. Or Welbeck have been looking so good.

But again, soon 26 and Campbell is coming back next year....should we keep him as 6th striker? We struggle to keep our 3rd pick on the pitch long enough...
