Sunderland Striker Out For A Year?

Jones sustained the injury in a clash with David James in the early stages of Trinidad and Tobago's friendly with England earlier this month.

Initial assessment was inconclusive as to the extent of the injury, but Sunderland have revealed that after their own investigations, ‘conservative treatment' on the player's knee will be required.

The club's website reported: "The club arranged their own radiological investigations and have detected ligament damage, which will require several weeks of conservative treatment. After this period, a further assessment will be undertaken to assess the full extent of the injury."

After joining the Black Cats from Southampton, Jones established himself as one of Roy Keane's ‘untouchables', and was hailed by his manager as one of the Premier League's best strikers.

Keane must now reconfigure his plans and find a replacement for his star player. Daryl Murphy, Michael Chopra and Rada Prica all featured up front for Sunderland last season but none could dislodge Jones from the side.

The club have been recently linked with an £8 million move for Tottenham Hotspur misfit Darren Bent, and must now step up their efforts in pursuit of a forward.

That would be terrible. For Sunderland, for Jones, for Keane... For everybody.
Definitely. Jones is one of the better strikers in the Premiership, and for him to be ruled out to the end of the year will hurt Sunderland! They will need to find a good, temporary replacement.
Thats awful for Sunderland and Keane. Great for everyone else, as hes Sunderlands main threat atm. But I like watching him play as well. Hes one of the best.

I wasn't sure how good he was, and how he would adapt to the Prem but hes been great.

But why are you all saying sign a good, temporary replacement? Sign as good a striker as Sunderland can get, then stick him up front with Jones when he comes back ;)
I'm pretty gutted about this because he was a great player last season. Really excelled.
I feel for keano and for the sunderland fans.jones was there best player last season and hope sunderland can get sum1 as good or better.
That was a major blow for Sunderland...
Maybe now he will look at Man United and loan some striker?
Manucho maybe? Or that new Italian striker we signed? Saha? Campbell?
Shame this sucks. Hope it turns out to be not quite as serious. Keane must have turned his desk over when he heard.
Terrible news..
Jones was great Last season and It will be a big miss for Sunderland.
Keano should look now for New Striker..
