Yesterday Carlos Tevez ran his socks off !

He challenged for the ball.....

He chased the ball.....

He did his best with no relenting and I was very impressed.

Add to this the fact he is scoritwo goals as well and he deserves man of the
match in my opinion.

Ronaldo seemed off colour for me - yes he played a nice game but he seems to
dislike wet conditions - images from Milan and the pouring rain last season still
haunt me - that cold rainy night in Milan he was nowhere to be seen.

Yesterday he played very well dont get me wrong - but by his remarkable
standards he was a bit down on his usual performance.

Then came the penalty !

Ronaldo won it - even though it was with a rather nice dive :p

The crowd immediately began to chant 'Argentina' as they half expected Ronaldo
to allow Tevez a nice chance for his first hatrick at United.

But no.....

Ronnie grabbed the ball and no way was anyone else taking this penalty !!

Was Ronnie right to do this ?

Or should he have let Tevez round off a very good days work for him with a
hatrick ?

Carlos Tevez was simply brilliant yesterday! He chase for all the balls, netted a superb brace & it was a pity he didn't get grab a hat-trick tho. Would hve prefer Carlitos 2 step up & took the pen. It would be a great day for him to cap it off with a sensational hat-trick! But too bad he didn't......maybe Ronnie was too selfish. But I would rather let Tevez get his hat-trick.

Maybe Tevez isn't good at penalties, who knows. From the manutd site, giggs and ferdinand supported Ronaldo saying that the regular penalty taker should always be the one that takes them no matter what

and yes, that was a nice dive by ronaldo lol. He kinda kicked the defender's leg and then fell on the ground making it seem like he was tripped

100% ronaldo. there is a reason you have a set penalty taker. because he is the best at the job and has the confidence to do it. you start messing around with that then bad atmosphere will begin or ronaldo could lose confidence. plus its good to see ronaldo wanting to score, wanting to get on the score sheet. a penalty is a game plan. same being if in 99 we were 2-2 in the last minute and cole had grabbed two goals and played amazing who would you let take the freekick, david beckham or andy cole because he deserves a hat-trick

Good post. I was hoping for Tevez to take it but its Ronnies job, simple as.
As said above its all about confidence. What if its 0-0 at Anfield next weekend and we get a penalty. Surely the more Ronaldo takes the better. It will give him the confidence to score each time. Giggs, Fergie and Rio have already come out to say that Ronaldo should have taken it. Giggs makes great points (cant find article though) for Ronaldo taking the penalties. You could also tell by his celebration that he really wanted it. You have to be selfish to be a top goalscorer and he wanted to continue his amazing scoring record. So Ronaldo for me.

As you said,it's a free-kick. Let me ask you a question. Do u think it's easier to score from a penalty or a free-kick? Besides,Becks was arguably the best free-kick takers of all time! Nobody could challenge him to take a free-kick that time! In Wayne Rooney & Carlos Tevez,I'm very sure we have two genuine challengers for the authority to be the first-choice penalty taker. Also I could bet that if Carlitos had took that pen,he would definitely score it.

however, im not doubting the difference between a freekick or a penalty. im trying to get across that its a game plan. you set a penalty taker because he is the best at that job like, you set a captain or a corner taker or a thrown taker just like you have a penalty taker. so if ronaldo is are penalty taker and his scoring his penalties then i wish for ronaldo to keep taking them no matter what the situation is. im sure carlos is a good penalty taker but that isnt his role and im sure tevez will score many hat-tricks at united which dont involve penalties. look how many penalties cantona and ruud took for us. thats because they were the best at the job and took up the role

But sometimes,u gotta be flexible right? I mean like now, even tho Gary Neville is the captain of United, when he doesn't plays,Giggsy took over the role. Anyway,we r winning,so y not let Carlitos take it? There's no harm in doing so.
but penalties are big pressure situations. the more he takes the more experience he gets the more he is able to take away the pressure the more likely he is to deliver in big games such as was mentioned in a previous post. you can only get good at taking penalties by taking them in match situation. but thats like saying if ronaldo did go off tevez would of took it. cant help substitution's
