Zenit St Petersburg have left Andrei Arshavin out of their squad to face Krylya Sovetov Samara this weekend.

The Russia international has been strongly linked with a move away from his homeland, with Tottenham seemingly leading the race for his signature.

There had been conflicting rumours suggesting the playmaker was willing to commit his future to Zenit, but Dick Advocaat feels his star turn is still not fully focused on the task in hand.
Exit

"I would like to say that Andrei will not be taking part in the match with Krylya Sovetov," the Dutchman said.

"At the moment we need players who are only thinking about the game, and Andrei's head is full of other things at the moment. Because of that, on Sunday it is best for him to remain in St Petersburg."

The summer transfer window slams shut on 1st September, and Advoccat refused to rule out the possibility of Arshavin leaving the Uefa Cup holders before that point.

"As far as his exit is concerned, the transfer period is yet to finish and things can still change," he added.

Expectation

The former Rangers boss also confirmed that he expects Spurs to resurrect their interest in the 27-year-old before the end of the month.

"We don't need to sell players," Advocaat told Bloomberg.

"Last year we sold Martin Skrtel to Liverpool for £10million, and now Arshavin probably will go to Spurs."

It remains unclear as to whether Arshavin will be considered for selection in next week's European Super Cup showdown with Manchester United in Monaco or whether his imposed exile will continue.

Arshavin admits Spurs defeat
Russian playmaker accepts he's staying at Zenit

Zenit St Petersburg forward Andrei Arshavin has all-but conceded he will not be joining Tottenham.

The talented schemer has been a long-term target for Spurs boss Juande Ramos but the North London club have failed to concur on a fee with their Russian counterparts.

Zenit have been steadfast in their £24million asking price; a figure which the Tottenham board have baulked at in turning their attention elsewhere.

Arshavin, who was dropped by Zenit for the recent league game against Krylya Sovetov Samara, is currently in Monaco preparing for Friday night's Super Cup clash with Manchester United.

The player has made no secret of his desire to move to the Premier League but is now ready to accept he is unlikely to join Spurs, who are set to announce the signing of Arshavin's international team-mate Roman Pavlyuchenko within the next 48 hours.

"I have a feeling we can put this story to bed," he told Sport Express.

"I think with the purchase of Pavlyuchenko the idea of Arshavin (moving) to London no longer exists.

When quizzed on whether he saw his future at Zenit, he replied: "It looks that way."

Valencia interest
Arshavin's agent Dennis Lachter admits that Zenit's asking price for his client looks likely to prohibit his departure, with Valencia the only club who still hold a tangible interest.

"Villarreal have dropped out [of negotiations]," Lachter told Russian newspaper Sovetsky Sport. "That club are not going to buy Andrei.

"The only team who are interested in Arshavin at the moment is Valencia.

"However, the transfer will only go through if Real Madrid buy striker David Villa from Valencia."
