The Best Target Man For United ?

this is quite an interesting topic, everyone seems to be thinking about it, you switch on the euros and they are speculating who would be a good front man for united, personally im finding it quite exciting aswell as a bit frustrating but hay everyone has an opinion, imo i would clearly like us to go for Benzema, it's simple we're the best, he's the best young talent lets spend some hard earnt cash after winning the league and champion league! other alternatives are as follows

Roque Santa Cruz - proven ability to score goals in the premier league, and he proved it having half the chances Rooney and Tevez had so he would be a cheaper alternative to Benzema.

Berbatov - talented, gifted touch, brings others into play, proven in the prem, sulks more than Ronaldo when things aren't going his way though and probably the furthest thing from a team player.

Eto'o - if saha goes for me he would be perfect because he is basically a fit and healthy more consistant version of louis saha, top player but his price tag and attitude will be questionable.

Huntelaar - yes we all know his goal scoring is very impressive, but truth of the matter is he's been playing against the eqivilant to championship defenders week in week out until he play psv eindhoven, who am i to judge i just wouldnt persoanlly like us to spend 18 - 20m for him he looks decent enough dont get me wrong but im just un-decided about him, having said that cant wait to see him in the euros lets hope he gets a few games :)

For me these are the front runners, in the respect that imo these strikers can be bought this summer, if anyone feels another top striker is out there that you would prefer share it with us, if not tell us who you like and what do you think they would bring to united :)

It'd be brilliant if we could get Eto'o but according to the papers both Chelsea and Inter Milan are interested.

Real Madrid are being linked with Huntelaar and AC Milan have declared their interest in Berbatov.

Only United have been linked with Santa Cruz so far - perhaps he is the most likely option.
I'm starting to think it'll be someone playing in the Euros'. David Gill did say they didn't expect to make any signing until after it was over. If were going to sign Roque, i don't think we'd need to wait for it to finish. But thats the picture i got...
I'd prefer to go with someone really young...Maybe Hunterlaar out of all of them..
I agree with above comment, i think we have our eyes on players at the euros.

Huntelaar from the list, although Benzema is my ideal choice.
if you read it you would see benzema is my priority mate
In this order:
Berbatov, Benzema, Eto'o, Huntelaar, Santa Clause........
IMO for the money we can get Santa Cruz at the lowest price plus we already know he is good in england whereas Huntelaar (although im 99% sure he would be good) may not adapt in England same as Benzema, but there both young and have time just look at Torres he adapted quick enough.

So really happy with any of them but preferably Benzema, but more realistically we're looking at S.Cruz!
Honestly the best target man Utd could buy would be Klose. As we all know, there isnt many Germans who have played in the first team; the chances are limited of us making an actual bid, though he's one of the most talented finishers in the world.

Same applies to Gomez.

Huntelaar would be the dream signing if we keep Ronaldo because Huntelaar will be able to finish all the hard work Rooney, Tevez, Ronaldo etc provide.
please listen............

benzema says "he rather join real madrid than manutd"

I've discussed this at length in this thread

But the choices listed above are good choices.

Each player has his strengths and weaknesses.

Santa Cruz - had a good first season, but he was not very prolific at Bayern and I would just like to air a word of caution, because he might be a one season wonder.

Berbatov - great player, lousy attitude, but he would add even more creativity to the attack. He's missed a couple of sitters though and his price tag is sure to be in the 20million plus range.

Eto'o - brilliant but moody and i didn't like how he voiced his displeasure at his coach and team mates in public. He wouldn;t come cheap either.

Huntelaar - In my opinion Huntelaar represents very good value. He has shown consistency over the last two seasons and whether or not he's been playing in a weaker league, his finishing has been sublime. It might not be easy to lure him away from Ajax though, now that van Basten and Bergkamp will coach there next season.

There are some strikers that also should be mentioned like Mario Gomez and Luis Fabiano.

For me Luis Fabiano would be very shrewd signing. Lots of ability, coupled with pace and a nice price tag. Has had a history of on-field and off-field problems, but seems more stable now.

Mario Gomez has all the attributes we are looking for and the only question mark would be wether he can be consistent and whether he can adapt to the Premier League.

This thread is about target men, so David Villa doesn't come into contention. Although his finishing is easily better than Rooney or Tevez, I don't think he's what we need at the moment.

My preferred strikers this summer, baring in ming that Benzema is not leaving Lyon:

1. Luis Fabiano
2. Huntelaar
3. Mario Gomez
4. Eto'o
5. Berbatov
6. Santa Cruz

Just to clarify and avoid any furore, Berbatov is a class player and I'm not rating him lower than the other players in terms of skill, mere on transfer value.

All we need is a target man as we already have two ace strikers in rooney and tevez...hence i would go for huntelaar or berbatov and become the new nistelrooy..scoring loads of goals for us in a season..
david villa looked fantastic last night , great mobility , good finishing could do a lot worse .
his price has probably gone through the roof after his hatrick last night
It's actually quite funny. Up until the Euro's peoople couldn't get enough of Toni, Benzema, Gomez.

We're just finished the first round of Euro matches and who were the three most underwhelming strikers?

You guessed right. I'm not saying they're bad it's just really funnny how players always pperform differently for country and club.

Some improve markedly (Klose and Podolski).

Some are quite good but perhaps not living up to expectations scoring wise (Torres, Ronaldo).

Others are underwhelming but still try very hard (The aforementioned trio).

Finally there are those who are simply all out of ideas and motivation and look like they couldn't care less (Malouda, Abidal, Malouda, Donadoni).

i still go for the hunter he just need a big club and he gonna get the biggest and greatest club that man utd after hunter ill go for VIlla David
i worry about players like huntelaar , he cannot make the dutch first team , its not as he is up and coming he has been playing for a number of years.
it is always a gamble with foreign players to see whether they will settle and adapt to the english game , berbatov would be nice as he is proven in this league , but his price is sky high .
i personally do not think fergie will make too many signings unless ronaldo leaves.
the expectation is always high every summer for united fans and 70% of time we are left dissapointed with lack of money united spend , but the results show fergie gets it right most of the time lets hope he does again
benzema has said on sky sports that real would be his first choice , he has said before england would be his third choice so i think we can forget about him
David Villa for me, great for club and country and he wants to leave valencia. I have a feeling chelsea will try to buy him after his hatrick but we should still try he's like torres and would be great in the premier league.
villa scored 6 goals in qualification and a hatrick in their warm up match as well , rumour has it he is heading to anfield to team up with his best frien torres, after he got his hatrick he ran to the dugout to kiss torres .
I do not think many of these top strikers will come to us
