well, well..... the eastern football is still rising: after BATE, good results from cypriots, steaua bucarest, Cluj again and Shaktar, if it was not for a final stealing from Barça.

regarding that, i hope Barça will be sent off suddenly of the champions L: I cannot tolerate such bad behaviour

A Sergio Aguero-inspired Atletico Madrid kept pace with Liverpool at the top of Champions League Group D thanks to a 2-1 win over Marseille in the Spanish capital tonight.

Argentinian striker Aguero made it three goals in two games to put Atletico ahead, although Mamadou Niang brought the French club level before Raul Garcia struck the winner.

The Spaniards join Liverpool, 3-1 victors over PSV Eindhoven, at the top of the pool on a perfect six points.

In Group A, Roma got their campaign up and running as they came from behind to beat Laurent Blanc's 10-man Bordeaux 3-1 in France.

Yoann Gourcuff put the hosts ahead but Carlos Henrique was then red-carded for elbowing at a free-kick.

A Mirko Vucinic header plus two goals from Julio Baptista, including a free-kick, after the break sealed a vital three points for the Italians after their opening home defeat to CFR Cluj.

The Romanians drew 0-0 with Chelsea, leaving the pair top of the pile on four points.

Barcelona, champions in 2006, needed a 94th-minute strike from Lionel Messi to beat unlucky Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 in Group C.

Both teams had won their opening games but a fine finish by Ilsinho put the Ukrainians in pole position before the Argentina star's late show - he equalised with three minutes remaining then struck deep into injury-time.

Goals from Leandro Romagnoli and Derlei handed Sporting Lisbon a 2-0 win over Basle in Portugal.

In Group B, Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan took the lead but were eventually pinned back by Werder Bremen, who claimed a 1-1 draw at the San Siro.

Maicon's sweetly chipped first-half finish put the Italians ahead before former Chelsea striker Claudio Pizarro tapped in for the equaliser.

Cypriots Anorthosis Famagusta claimed a famous 3-1 victory over Greek rivals Panathinaikos.

A Josu Sarriegi own goal and Sinisa Dobrasinovic effort gave the islanders a comfortable lead, and although Dimitris Salpigidis pulled one back from the spot, Hawar Mulla Mohammed clinched the win to continue his club's promising start.

Cheating Barca gain the win!

Shaktar were leading 1-0 with not long to go. They kicked the ball out so that an injured player could be seen to. From the resulting throw in Barca, instead of giving the ball back, kept it and went on the attack, to equalise.

A few mins later they then scored what was to prove the winner. Shaktar's manager was furious!!! He remonstrated severely with the departing Barcelona players.

Atletico urge fans to behave
Spanish club respond to Uefa announcement

Atletico Madrid have urged their supporters to behave during the Champions League clash against Liverpool after Uefa confirmed the game will go ahead at Vicente Calderon.

The European governing body announced on Thursday it has temporarily lifted Atletico's two-game UEFA Champions League ban at their home stadium.

The Spanish club were penalised for crowd trouble which marred their European fixture versus Marseille at the beginning of October, and were suspended from playing their next two games at home.

But, now that the decision has been reconsidered, next Wednesday's match will go ahead and Atletico have asked their fans to respect their opponents next week, with Uefa expected to closely scrutinise the encounter.

A statement read: "Club Atletico de Madrid, after receiving the official notification of the provisional suspension granted by the Uefa Board of Appeals requested by the club, would like to state their approval with the decision adopted by this body, by virtue of which the Champions League match between Atletico de Madrid and Liverpool will be played at Estadio Vicente Calderon and their manager, Javier Aguirre, will be able to sit on the bench.

"Regardless of the provisional suspension conceded, the club will continue to fight the charges with the goal of completely clearing up everything that occurred and proving their innocence, along with proving the absence of the organisation's responsibility with respect to what they have been accused of.

"Furthermore, the club would like to ask its fans to show the maximum respect towards the decision adopted by Uefa and to continue to display the good sportsmanship and fair play that they have been demonstrating at all matches to date, considering the importance lent to supporters' behaviour for the positive development of a football match."

i heard that athletico fans were planning on wearing kkk hoods with club logos on to the game

uefa are soft in the head --- they only did this so as to stop madrid and scouse fans travelling on same trains to a new venue .

if they had any guts they would have made them play it at anfield

So after Juve, Zenit fail to master BATE?

BATE are really making the bookies rich man.

I admire their spirit and the fact that they are playing proper football away from home.
They're passing the ball nicely, getting forward, but still doing their defensive work.

I'm beginning to think Arsenal could quite well be a threat in this tournament. If only for the fact, that they are desperate for a trophy and the home defeat to Hull proves they don't have a deep enough squad to compete on all fronts. Lets not forget, I think the Arsenal faithful (lol) would be happier with a European Cup anyway, considering how they've never won it, but were painfully close a couple of years ago. I could easily see them becoming a Cup team.

I think Jamie Carragher had a big roll in that one too! :D Simao's finish was as calm as could be.

What did Robbie Keane do that waas so bad in that match?
The Irish pundits were slating him for doing a silly flick rather than scoring a tap in.
What happened?
