The Holy Trinity

The Holy Trinity statue of Sir Bobby Charlton, George Best and Denis Law is set to
be unveiled at Old Trafford today at midday.

The man who is the creator of the work of art was also the man behind the tall
standing Sir Matt Busby statue which adds the character to Old Trafford.

Forty years to the day since the Reds lifted the European Cup for the first time,
the statue, which will stand opposite the one of Sir Matt Busby at the front of the
stadium, will be revealed in a ceremony beginning at 12pm (shown live on MUTV).

Most of the surviving members of the 1968 squad are expected to attend the
event, which will honour their achievements during that memorable season and
pay tribute to what was arguably the finest attacking trio to ever play together.

Charlton, Best and Law scored 665 goals between them for United, and, between
1964 and 1968, all won the coveted European Footballer of the Year award.

Now, thanks to award-winning sculptor Philip Jackson, their legacy will forever be
remembered by fans who visit the home of Manchester United.

when they say opposite do they mean right infont of sir matt busby so you cant see him when taking a pic of the ground from straight on ?

even so. a great idea. next statue has to be fergie :D
Not exactly sure where it will go.

I've got a feeling that it will be in the "forecourt" of the stadium as it were, on the
ground infront of the megastore if you get me.

Can't wait to see it next season!

I watched the unveiling live on MUTV earlier on today. The statue looked good I thought, and was made by the same man who made the statue of Sir Matt.

When the unveiling took place, Sir Alex and David Gill were the men to reveal the statue to fans who were outside OT, as well as Red Legends such as Paddy Crerand and Denis Law, as well as fans watching on MUTV.

One thing I'm not sure I like though is where the Statue is placed. It is next to the car park opposite the east stand currently. To me it looks a bit out of place and isolated over there. I'm not sure if it would have looked right next to the Sir Matt statue though.

If anyone is interested I'll edit some pictures later to see where it might have looked better.
Now we just need one of Sir Alex & Sir Matt.
Statues look good. Shame George Best isn't around anymore...to see this.
am I the only one who thinks that Best's statue is a lot less 'real' than Law's and Sir Bobby's?

for what its worth I think they should be by Sir matt Busby, and we should have it as if Sir Matt is looking over them.

so out of all of the players/managers thant have been at Manutd, who else do guys think should get a statue at some point?

Agree with the first part there.....Best's statue could have been a bit more
'real' as you said.....but anyway it's a great statue and fully deserved.

A lot of people have been saying they should be nearer Sir Matt, or to
have Sir Matt looking at them. That could have been a better option.

To the last part.....Fergie obviously will get a statue one day, and maybe
someone like Giggs eventually? record appearences and the most decorated
player ever in our history, deserves it I think, and they way he tore defences
apart throughout his career as well. :)

A fans favourite would be Cantona's.....and I dont think anyone would
object to that, though its unlikely to happen.

Personally I think Roy Keane should get one as the greatest captain of ALL time ;)

Sounds interesting, all i care is that they made 3 heroic footballing UNITED icons and what a great way to pay respect for them for their hard work!

exactly. people whining about unimportant points seems daft. Glad to see United keeping history important and relevant to all current United fans.

We dont need anymore statues at moment as they end losing their significance if all you can see is dozens of statues. Perfect choice by United to have the three players to all play together and have nearly all the United records between them.

And to say George statue aint 'real'. Its a metal statue, not Madam Tussauds

It's on other side of SMBW. They are facing the glass. So looking uptowards Sir Matt. Great statue in my opinion. Bestie's is the least 'realistic' but great anyway. Really happy they've done that. Means alot to the people of Manchester.
Yet again we have shown remeberance for those who stay on as legends... This will keep the lads inspired at all time...
