This is still speculation. As much as we need and want OH and vice versa - don't forget that he's legally bound by contract to FC Bayern München for the next four years. That's a solid investment by the club and he won't be easily let go of.

With the transfer window closing in just under two weeks time, I expect any move (if at all one does occur) to happen only in the January transfer period.

MANCHESTER UNITED finally got their hands on Owen Hargreaves yesterday  when the club’s security staff whisked him away from his England hotel.


SunSport pictured Hargreaves being driven off with his United guard at 7.40am as the club closed in on their £13million target.

Bayern Munich are determined to hang on to the midfield ace, who starred in England’s 4-0 friendly win over Greece at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

But he was met at Manchester’s Lowry Hotel by a man from security firm CES, which is used by United.

The same burly guard, an ex-forces member, was recently snapped escorting new Man U signing Michael Carrick.

Hargreaves, 25, desperate to leave Bayern for Old Trafford, was driven away in a silver Audi  one of a number supplied to the club.

Hargreaves’ agent Roman Grill has spent two days in Manchester trying to do a deal with United boss Alex Ferguson.

Now that he's injured, maybe Bayern Munchen will relent and drop the asking price a bit. OTOH, his lack of fitness and match form might hurt our short-term interests. Still, it's rare to find a decent Brit mid-fielder these days and ATM he's the best that we ca n hope for. (Which really points to how low our status has dropped among the footballing fraternity - remember the Ballack snub?)

Bayern Munich want Man Utd swap for Hargreaves


Bayern Munich are interested in a swap deal with Manchester United for their midfielder Owen Hargreaves.

The Sunday Mirror says despite protests from Bayern Munich that Hargreaves will not be sold in January, there is a growing belief at the German club that the England midfielder's £15 million move is virtually inevitable.

Bayern now want to make the deal a part exchange with either O'Shea or Brown moving to Bavaria.

Personally, I don't think any sort of swap deal should be undertaken. We are short of players and we're looking to increase depth in the squad. If we do even consider a swap deal, whom would you rather send packing to Bayern ?

1. O'Shea - a utility player who can play midfield or in defence or even as a wingback.

2. Brown - a defender who's frequently played out of position, gets too few chances and is getting to be an injury concern.

Ryan Giggs is performing at an exceptional level considering his age and for how long he has been with the club. Being put in a mid-field role has reduced his incisive winging runs, but he has excelled through out the season.
