Described by United's scouting department as “a stylish player consistent with the traditions and legacy of wide players at this club”, 21-year-old Tosic is already a regular in Serbia’s national team.

A winger who hugs the touchline and takes defenders on, he possesses silky dribbling skills and a strong left-foot shot. Renowned for his mastery in dead ball situations, Tosic is a real threat from set-pieces, whether firing goalwards or delivering pin-point crosses.

United scouts were watching the winger for over a year before he joined the Reds and in that time his progress took giant

strides. He appeared (and scored) for Partizan Belgrade in a Champions League qualifier against Fenerbahce in August 2008, not long after he returned from Serbia’s involvement at the Beijing Olympics. He also has UEFA Cup experience and is expected to play a big part in Serbia’s quest for 2010 World Cup qualification.

A United fan since childhood, Tosic grew up with posters of his heroes plastered on his bedroom walls in Zrenjanin. No doubt Ryan Giggs was one of those figures and, who knows, it could be Tosic who’s charged with filling the Welshman’s boots when Giggs eventually retires.

Serbia winger Zoran Tosic expects to join Manchester United in January after being granted a British work permit following a personal appeal by Alex Ferguson.

"I was told that about 10 days ago that Manchester had sent a request for my work permit which is now granted," the 21-year-old Partizan Belgrade player told reporters Monday.

"I know nothing more, or what will be the next steps, but I suppose that I have a few games left for Partizan," Tosic said.

No details of the transfer fee were given for Tosic, but local Belgrade media said it was around 3.5 million euros (£2.95m)

United manager Ferguson made a personal plea at a work permit hearing last week in Sheffield, saying that Tosic, a Serbia teammate of United defender Nemanja Vidic, is a player of outstanding potential who will challenge for a first-team place immediately.

Tosic, who has made 12 international appearances and impressed at the Beijing Olympics, can play on either flank.

He is a free-kick specialist and has been nicknamed "Bambi" by Serbian fans because of his slight build.

Another Serbian talent, Adem Ljajic, a 17-year-old dubbed "the Serbian Kaka," is also thought to be in talks with United.

The Partizan midfielder — considered the most promising Serbian youngster — had been training at Old Trafford this summer, and is expected to join when he turns 18 next year.

Exciting Serbian winger Zoran Tosic is struggling to hide his delight after being granted a work permit over the weekend, allowing him to join Manchester United in January.

The 21-year-old, who plays for Partisan Belgrade, went to his local store to check out the famous red shirt.

United's boss Sir Alex Ferguson made a personal plea on behalf of the player at a work hearing in Sheffield.

He is reportedly so impressed with the talented youngster that he believes Tosic will push for a place in the first team almost immediately upon his arrival in the New Year.

The best thing about this transfer so far without knowing much at all about him apart from whats been reported since uniteds interest was found is that he is a left footed player.

It could be true that united wanted silva from valencia in the summer then because he was also a winger who was left footed and played on both wings.

Anyway im glad we have a left footed player because he is different from the rest of the offensive pack right now with ronnie, rooney, berba, tevez, nani all being right footed he could offer us a different dimension. Hope he is quality though.

pz!

no one seems to know much about him, but youtube does, and for a reported £3m for a 21-year old, YouTube is informing me that he's worth a punt and could be a gem of a signing. Obviously got Vidic who would be a great player to model himself on, and hopefully this Ljajic kid, who united seem to expect a senior international cap from in the near future, at 17 years old, which tells you something i suppose.
i hope fergie's pulled off a little bargain on the levels of evra/vidic :)

Tosic can be top drawer
http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/manchester_united/s/1083015_tosic_can_be_top_drawer

NANI will be looking over his shoulder with the imminent arrival at Old Trafford of Serbian winger Zoran Tosic.

The 21-year-old rising star of Partizan Belgrade was granted a work permit at the end of last week.

United's bid to sign the full international was in jeopardy as he didn't fulfil the requirements of having played in 75 per cent of Serbia's internationals.

But United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson made a personal appearance at a hearing in Sheffield on Friday and his appeal claiming that Tosic would be challenging immediately for a senior place with the Champions clinched the decision.

Now Tosic is seeing out his career at Partizan before officially moving to Old Trafford during the January transfer window for a fee of around £3m.

"I was told about 10 days ago that United had sent a request for my work permit which is now granted," says the Tosic.

"I know nothing more or what will be the next steps, but I suppose that I have a few games left for Partizan."

Prominence

Tosic has shot to prominence in recent years after being switched to the left wing by Nikola Rakojevic, coach of his hometown club FK Banat Zrenjanin.

It was an inspired decision because Tosic became a Serbian Under 21 and played in the 2007 European Under 21 championships.

His form prompted a move to Partizan where he has scored 14 goals in 46 league matches in the last two years.

This summer saw him appear in the China Olympics and he returned to help Partizan to top spot in the Serbian Super League.

"These are great times, the best of my life," he says.

"I always work hard. I believe in honest work. If you give 100 per cent each day and in every training session, then playing well is like a glorious gift.

"Now, I am enjoying myself but am looking to work harder, because a few games do not mean anything."

Tosic, whose nickname is Bambi because of his lean frame, is a free-kick specialist who can play on either flank.

He is also now a full international colleague of Nemanja Vidic.

Tosic excited over 'dream' move

Zoran Tosic has revealed it is all systems go for his ‘dream’ move to Manchester United from Partizan Belgrade.

The 21-year-old, nicknamed 'Bambi', has been given permission to sign for the Premier League outfit despite not satisfying strict work permit conditions.

Serbian media sources claim the youngster will remain on loan at Partizan until the end of the season before completing a £3 million switch to Old Trafford and Tosic cannot wait.

He said: "My agent told me about work permit, that I got it, but that's all I know at the moment.

“My Agent also told me to stay focused on Partizan and playing as best as I can until end of first part of season. But it is great honour everything that is going on. I still can't believe it,

“I'm still in dream land. From the moment I first kicked the ball I
dreamed of playing for Manchester United. And my dreams are going to
happen in real life.

“When I played video games with my friends, I was always Cristiano Ronaldo. But I must stay on the floor with both legs. Partizan is still the most important."

Sensitive words - dream move. :D

Yes, I think it's all smoke screens and I think he'll sign in Jan.....and that he will get a fair few games.

Imagine - late in a game and it's tied - on comes Tosic to bend in a free kick or put in a sweet cross. It could make a big difference.

Did sky just not say about how Fergie wasn't going to buy in January?
Confusing! :S
I'd like to hear the quote from Fergie tbh because some media are reporting that we'll make no signings in January and others are reporting that we'll make no MAJOR signings in January.

Don't think Ronaldo will give up the free-kicks tbh

Sir Alex was quoted as saying that Tosic will come in January and will go straight into the first team squad to challenge for a place in the team.

Hopefully he will, as, as a lot of people have said, we are lacking a left-footed left winger to offer more balance into the team. As I said, I think that Park and Ronaldo should be our first-choice CL pairing.

But, depending on whos on form come Tosics arrival, and the fact that we need to rest players every now and again, he could well get a chance in the first-team.
