CITY TO SACK ERIKSSON - REPORTS

Manchester City are considering sacking Sven-Goran Eriksson at the end of the season and are lining up Luiz Felipe Scolari as his replacement, according to reports.

Whispers that Thaksin Shinawatra has grown unhappy with the Swede's work have been heard around Manchester for the past few weeks, but the Sunday Times claims that their relationship has now reached breaking point.

The newspaper reports that the club have 'lost confidence' in Eriksson and their billionaire owner 'has been unimpressed by the performances of most of the players for whom he paid more than £50m and wants to change managers before committing another £30m in the close season.'

Although The Observer's report on the unrest at City isn't as categorical, it nonetheless depicts the prospect of Eriksson of leaving as a probability rather than a possibility. The newspaper cites 'a source familiar with City's politics' revealing that "Thaksin rang Sven to reprimand him, telling him he would be sacked at the end of the season if results did not improve."

'It is further understood that agents attempting to negotiate deals with City in recent weeks have been told not to factor Eriksson into their equations because the club does not necessarily expect the manager they appointed last summer to be present for a second season at there,' the newspaer adds.

Both the Observer and Times agree that, should Eriksson depart, City's first choice would be Scolari.

- You have to admire clubs that let their managers get on with their jobs. I can only think of 4: Man Utd, Arsenal, Everton and Blackburn

its been one season ! give him a chance !

and this is where city will fail once again. Shinawatra wants success way too quickly, if he knew about football he would understand that success takes time to come, fergie himself was nearly sacked way back in the 80's and look at him now,

too me Shinawatra looks like anova abromovich. trying to buy instant success rather than wait. it will eventually be his downfall...

He needs time!! He got all his transfers correct besides the strikers...all he needs is a quality experienced keeper, some good strikers and he should get a little more squad depth in the mid and defence and he will be doing better than Liverpoo next season lmao

I don't know but it looks like all new owners expect a Mourinhio type of impact - EPL winning team in 1st season...very very unrealistic!

Middlesborough are another club who pretty much let Southgate keep going when they could of gone free fall as do Reading.
I think its important to give them at least a season, without Eriksson and his signings City could of been looking at a relegation scrap this season.

So he basically needs a whole team worth of new players.....hehehehe.....
The team has some good players, but they should be performing much better than they are. When you buy mercenaries that's what happens.

- You know I almost included Middlesbrough, but didn't because Southgate is so new, but then again Steve Gibson has always been very tolerent of his managers, even when they have been complete rubbish.

.....Where have the days of Emerson, Ravanelli and Juninho gone? At least they used to entertain down at the riverside....
