I'm actually inclined to agree with that list. Henrik Larsson is definitely a contender for the greatest bargain transfer of all time.

£650,000 for one of the greatest strikers of all time seems like a pretty good bargain to me.

Certainly can't argue with any of that list.
Larsson at the top, must agree with dlan on everything that he said.

Bergkamp was one hell of a bargain for the Areswipes
looking back on what he did for them.

The King comment needed except lmao @ Lids.

As much as i hate ciddy, Colin Bell was probably the
Number 1 transfer bargain of that era.

Anyone care to post up the transfer fees for them all ?
I'm too lazy to go looking . lol.

larsson and bergkamp ahead of eric , i do not think so .
eric totally turned our fortunes around and won us every thing bar the champions league in which we were handicapped by the foreigners rule or that would be in his portfolio as well.
you have to get it into perspective larsson played for celtic , where the standard of football in scotland is p##s poor , bergkamp won a couple of medals with arsenal but was too scared to fly for gods sake ( no good for euro aways)
Now eric is the best one million pounds ever ever spent by anybody , my red blinkered opinion of course

Where is Roy Keane?
He was United's best ever signing followed closely by Cantona.
Schmeichel also deserves a mention. That list is just so wrong in so many ways.
I figured the reason Keano wasn't in there was that it was making a list about the biggest bargain transfers. But was Bergkamp a frugal purchase at the time?

4.5 million and 1.7 million are barely bargains. But the reason Keane isn't there is because his was quite alot at thetime wasn't it ? I thought it was a record but I'm probably wrong. Has to be Larsson from there though.

Keane from Cobh Ramblers to Nottingham was like 4500. He was their player of the year in his second season, and him and Stuart Pearce almost managed to keep them from relegation by themselves.

roy keane hands down.

£3.75m yes it was a record transfer fee at the time.

considering his success at the highest level, he was a collosus for utd driving the team on for more than a decade, remember juve 99 ( of course you do).
looking at his achievments over the years and the fact most players would have him in their all time xi. really says it all about the guy
just imagine he had accepted the offer from blackburn , what might have been..
instead he changed his mind at the last minute and signed for us and the rest is history.

2nd.. cantona

3rd larsson

4th OLE.

5th schmiechel

6th, dennis irwin

7th rush

8th greaves
