Massimiliano Pisnoli, the father of De Rossi's wife Tamara, was found with gunshot wounds to the head and on his shoulders by the Carabinieri (Italian Military Police) near the town of Aprilia just outside the Italian capital.

His body was found in a decomposed state and initial examinations by the forensic team suggest Pisnoli was killed last week.

The victim who lived in Rome is believed to have had a criminal record for being involved in robberies and theft in the past.

Carabinieri from the provincial command of Latina are investigating the death of Pisnoli as they try to piece together a jigsaw surrounding his murder. The hunt is now on to catch the man's killer.

A statement has not been released by the victim's family yet, as investigations are on-going.

De Rossi married Pisnoli's daughter in 2005. Roma have confirmed that the midfielder skipped Wednesday afternoon's training session.

a man went to steal the car as soon as her wife got out......... he didn't realize that in the back seat there was the child: when he got that, because of the shouting of the woman, he suddenly stopped the car, got out of it and started running away

about De Rossi's father in law I'm totally shocked:
such things don't ever happen in Rome.....we 're really not used to those facts

Italian World Cup winner Daniele De Rossi was in mourning on Thursday after his father-in-law was gunned down in a suspected Mafia hit.


Massimo Pisnoli, 48, was found with a gunshot wound to his face and back.


Roma confirmed that the midfielder skipped Wednesday afternoon's training session.

De Rossi is also known to Manchester United fans for scoring Roma's only goal when they lost 7-1 at Old Trafford in a Champions League quarter final in April 2007.

A police source said: 'It was a classic execution a bullet in the back and one to the mouth – he was virtually unrecognisable and his body was found with its arms up in the air.

'From what we can gather it had been there at least a week and what with the hot weather it was in a pretty bad state. He had convictions for robbery and theft and we know he moved in underworld circles.

'The area where he was found, south Lazio, is home to clans from the Neapolitan Camorra and the Calabrian N'drangheta.'
