Manchester United's team bus was attacked as it left Stamford Bridge on Sunday night.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side were making their way to Euston for their return journey to the north-west after the 1-1 draw with Chelsea when a bottle was hurled at the windscreen.

No-one was injured, although the windscreen was cracked.

Nevertheless, the team continued on their short trip across London without further incident.

United officials were eager to play down the incident afterwards.

"Yes. There was an incident but the matter is now in the hands of the police," said a club spokesman.

Last time United visited the stadium Patrice Evra became involved in a heated post-match exchange with Chelsea groundsman Sam Bethell which is still the subject of an FA investigation while Rio Ferdinand was forced to apologise to a female steward after kicking a ball at her in anger.

Today's encounter was not much less contentious, with United picking up seven yellow cards from referee Mike Riley which will now see them fined by the FA.

A Chelsea statement tonight read: "We are aware of reports of an altercation with the Manchester United bus as it left the Stamford Bridge area.

"It appears to be an isolated incident but we have launched a full investigation in conjunction with local authorities.

"We do not condone violence in any shape or form. If, as a result of our investigations, we find that any Chelsea supporters were involved we will take appropriate action against those individuals."

A fine for Chelski would do no effect to them as they have pockets full of dirty russian money, I'd say dock them points for the inability to control their fans, just like when United were fined by UEFA, for not controlling their fans in Rome in 2007.

But our fans did nowt wrong in Rome...well 99.9% of them, and we weren't docked points!

Docking Chelsea points would be a disgrace though! How are they supposed to
manage people outside the ground?

I think you'll find that neither the FA or League management committees have
any jurisdiction on things that happen outside the stadium area.

So dont expect $helski to even be charged with anything never mind get a fine or deduction of points.

Basically, this will come to nothing.

But its disgraceful, but not surprising considering the abuse Hargreaves received.

Not true football fans. Just hooligans.

Cheeky B******ds! Agreed.

Chel$ki will likely not to be punished for this.
Why should they ? If the coach was driving through Leicester and a bottle was thrown at it, should Leicester City be punnished for it ?

bit harsh using leicester as a example hahaha

but on all seriousness there is nothing chelski can do about a so called 'FAN' throwing a bottle or brick?

its unfair to put all chelski fans in the same brackett im sure its a small number of idiots who cant let go of the past oh the glory days of Firms and Fighting.

and its always unfair to say it was or is just chelski, we have some idiots. as do most if not all clubs have this hoolgan element its a sad thing for football,

if trouble started in the stadium during or around the match then yes perhaps chelski should get a fine, but out side the grownd is nothing to do with the club

and if my memory surves me correctly a few years ago a brink was thrown at a chealski fan bus leaving old trafford and a child was hurt

its just a sad truth and the bad natured side of our beautiful sport
