Oooh! I didn't like it when I saw the slow motion replay. When I first saw it in
real-time, I thought he'd got an elbow in the face or something.....
However, despite the clear anguish on his face, he did physically walk to the cab
and sit in the stretcher which was a good sign. When I saw him grabbing his knee
and shaking his hand, I immediately thought back to an experience of my own
where I ruptured my cruciate ligament and this thing called a meniscus in my left
knee. I couldn't move it after that and was out for 9 months, so thankfully,
Nemanja has;t suffered that. When the camera's were going around and he was
on the ground, it showed a clip of Wayne looking down at Vidic and it reminded
me of Fabregas looking down on Eduardo when his horrific injury was sustained.
Clearly, its not as bad but I really feared for the rest of the season. I'd say its just
a very bad twist. He'll get a scan and the damage will be analysed.
As for hen he'll be back. I'd be amazed if he showed up against Middlesbrough.
Even if there was minimal damage and he said he was fit to play, Fergie will and
rightly so, would refuse to throw him into the Premier League. It's simply not
worth the risk. As for the second leg at Old Trafford, I don't think he will or should
play. We've got a nice safety cushion to have and O'Shea has the experience to
handle the Roma attack. But the scenes 4 or 5 minutes after the injury were very
promising as he showed confidence, almost actually seeming to want to get back
onto the pitch! Tough stuff! Eh?
As for the defensive line for Boro, I'd be happy to go with this:
-----
Wes Brown-----
John O'Shea-----
Rio Ferdinand-----
Patrice Evra-----
If, Silvestre was ft, I'd consider placing him in at left back just to get some game
time. The only thing I feel may falter is Rio's performance. Will the absence of
Nemanja hinder Rio? Well, if tonight is anything to go by, I fear not. Rio was a
credit and wore the captains armband with pride and led by example. He made
several crucial interceptions after his partner in crime departed. Most notably, the
one where he poked the ball away after Van Der Sar produced a world-class
save to deny Roma getting a shot on goal. So I do think we'll cope without
Nemanja for the next two games at least, but we do need him and the team do
as well.
Oh, and also another note of Fergies intelligence.
When Vidic was injured and the physios were assessing him, the 4th official
didn't allow Fergie close enough to actually communicate with them so he didn't
know what the extent of the injury was. So the wily old Scotsman decided, I'll
send Ryan Giggs out as if to do so for a warm-up, yet secretly send him as a
private messenger to deliver the news back to base! Classic Fergie! Giggsy
really fancies his chance at the MI6 now!
And to finish, I think the most appropriate thing to say is,
GET WELL SOON VIDA
