Thank you Sir Alex
I don't know about top six, but a top ten is definitely a possibility.Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has claimed the champions’ squad is so strong that even their second string would finish in the upper reaches of the Premier League.
The Serbian was speaking after a United side containing mostly youngsters and squad players deposed of Blackburn Rovers 5-3 in midweek.
Speaking to The Mirror, the centre-back hailed the Carling Cup performance which featured players such as Jonny Evans, Rodrigo Possebon, Rafael Da Silva and Darron Gibson.
“When you see our second team play the football they did against Blackburn, it just shows how much we’ve got and the competition we have in every position,” he said before adding, “That team would be in the top six or seven in the Premier League, finishing in the UEFA Cup places at worst and probably do better than that.”
Carlos Tevez stole the headlines in that game, hitting four goals, yet Vidic lauded the youngsters on view, explaining: “It was such a young team, yet everybody could see the passion and character. Just look at how Rafael Da Silva, Jonny Evans, Possebon and Darron Gibson played, while Nani is already an experienced player at 20.”
The defender also revealed that he believed the strength in depth at Old Trafford would help them regain their Premier League title. He said: “We know we’re the only club who have ever won three successive Premier League titles and we believe we can do it again.”
The Red Devils currently lie six points behind leaders Liverpool, albeit with a game in hand, yet Vidic appears confident his side can catch up.
“But we have the same spirit as last year and we all know what we’ve achieved then,” admitted the Serbian before concluding simply, “We’re here to win.”
